Hey folks, I am new here and thought I might ask an obvious question.

Did the truck gods smile the day my truck was built, I mean I am reading all kinds of different posts about trannies going bad, injectors fouling out, PCM's going out, and the whole gamut of problems. Yet, in 205,000 miles the only thing that has gone wrong with my truck was a CPS at 50,000 and a rear wheel speed sensor at 90k, both fixed under warranty. see signature for mods.

Oh, BTW, this truck also spent 5 months in LA. hauling Fema campers, 2 sometimes 3 campers a day.

I know now that I have said all of the above the afore mentioned Truck gods will smite me with all their might.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/phoney.gif

I have many trucks in my family with very similar results, only major repair on ANY of them was a tranny freshen up at right around 200,000 miles.

Mostly what causes a lot of stuff to go wrong is not leaving it stock.

I have a buddy who has a 2001 F350, C/C 4X4, auto. He currently has 280,000 miles on it and all he has replaced is the ball joints and brakes. They abuse the hell out of that truck. The last 150,000 miles has basically been used as a hot shot truck for the company he works for (24ft trailer and 30ft gooseneck). The truck runs great, no tranny issues or weird noises (the injectors are quiet). The only performance mods he has done is ad an Edge Evo (80 HP mode), drop in oiled filter and exhaust. He has no gauges at all, even though I have told him about 50 times to get some. He just treats it like a truck, that must be the secret.

talk about luck, if my cps had not dropped me on the road 5 times in 109K, I would have had a perfect truck. If it aint broke I don't fix it.

so i guess with a little luck mine coulda been perfect instead of a dog /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

Yup, 87000, and only a tranny, that was my own fault for towing a John Deere 450 Dozer up the hill to my house, tractor and trailer about 19,5 - 21,000 It did great, but I made the mistake of backing up, once I was up the hill,,,, smoked it. But, I drive it like a truck, no gauges, k&n filter, magnaflow 4" muffler only and programmer on 3 all the time! I Love my Truck it does awesome!

Where does the notion of abuse equate to 'driving it like a truck'. You asked a skilled owner operator who drives a 'real' truck how they drive it. They operate it like a piece of high-tech machinery, not like some cut-rate jungle buggy rental.

Oh and another thing, why do 'real' trucks come with so many gauges? Because the operator of that machine needs to be knowledgeable enough to monitor it's vital functions.

Sorry, but abuse doesn't mean you're drivin it like a truck. It usually means one is being ignorant of the damage they are causing to a piece of machinery. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

My two oldest 7.3 PSD are doing okay

2001 with just over 500,000 miles. It got a new complete engine with turbo around 460,000 miles.

2001 with 480,000 on the original engine. Runs great (for now). I may sell it before it blows up. 10K for an engine is hard to swallow.

Tranys have gone out between 250/300K.

High dollar weak links are high pressure oil pumps, water pump a few times, and rear end in the 2001 went out at 100K and again around 350,000.

Just my 2 cents...
