So my 05 is in the shop getting headgaskets. I decided not to upgrade to ARP studs because of budget issues. I just can't do it at this time. This is the first time for HG's. How many of you have had HG's done and went with the stock setup for bolts? Have you had problems since? If I wanted to run a mild to medium tune later down the road is this decision gonna haunt me? Seems like theres plenty of 6.0's out there running SCT without studs.

My HG's were done over 10000 miles ago and it has been fine eversince. I think if you put any kinda of tuner on a 6.0 you will ultimatley have more problems over a stock one. I will not put a tuner on my 6.0. Its not worth it and yes I think it will haunt you after a while.

So with my 05, will they be using any updated parts? new head design? different bolts, gaskets?

Red...mine done 11/06. Pics "My Photos". Went with OEM head bolts. No updated parts at the time except 1 pulley. Less than 10K mi. since repairs..still good.

btw..were you given any explanation why h.g. failure? FWIW.. I was told my t. blades stuck..caused overboosting. Reman. t. etc. installed. Good luck!

Well just talked to them, they said they found no indication of a head gasket failure, heads checked out perfectly flat and the gasket was fine, So they will put it back together with all new parts and see if it still blows the tank.

you might be thinking of factory stuff, ford release updated parts a while back, not sure on the date but international started using different stuff on the engines built sometime in 06-07, it was called commonized heads. to my knowelege its bigger dowls on the block and heads, and different bolts heads for the injector hold downs, also less bolts used to bolt the rocker carrier to the head. as for the change to the gaskets and bolts i dont know exactly whats different about them.

Fordboy... On my other post I posted some pics of the oil cooler screen. You said this is common. can you explain it a little? Would all that crap mess up the hpop? As to my HG's looking fine, whats the deal with that? hopefully the heads don't have a microscopic crack somewere. The dealer said they measured up perfect and looked almost like a new set would. without magging them how would they know they aren't cracked?

a lot of times ford dealer ships will just replace your gaskets, cap, and resivoir, not the heads them selfs if its warranty work so that should be the only thing i would worry about, just dont beat the crap out of your truck and the heads should last........

Plus you shouldn't have to drive your truck like 'MEME' all the time either.

never really seen a hpop get damaged from anything, usually might get stuck in the ipr but thats it. the dealer your dealing with seems like a bunch of idiots, if it was making noise they are bad, see if they will let you take pics of them and post them. and most 6.0 heads that were crack that ive ever seen, i could see it with my own eyes all around the exhaust valve seats.
