I have an '05 f350 diesel. For a very long time if I let my truck sit for a 4-5 days or longer my truck will not start from low battery. I do have after market things like radio w/amps etc. air bags, viper alarm, etc. But I have disconnected them and it still happens. Ford said its probably my aftermarket stuff and they stop there. so I have just put up with it for years now. Yesterday I used an amp meter and found on stock thicker wire coming off the battery that is drawing about .4 amps with the truck off. I started pulling out fuses and when I pulled the one for the "cluster" it dropped to a low ".0 "something.

Called Ford and I was told that it is normal for the cluster to pull .5 amps.

Seems high to me and I dont see anything else drawing much of anything to make my truck go unstartable in a few days. Is .5 (half an amp!) or even .4 normal draw for the cluster when the truck is off? Can anyone measure theres for me? It is the slightly smaller thick wire off the drivers side battery.

One note; at one time I brought it in for this reason about a year and a half ago they said I had bad batteries then they checked the alternator and said it was bad, they replace all but I still have the same problem.

I'm calling BS on the dealer.
Make them show you the spec. Their Service Manual will have a battery drain test procedure.

On my 99 service CD, the allowable amp draw on a "sleeping" truck system is 0.05 amps which is 1/10th of what they told you was normal. It also says (and I quote) "No stock vehicle should have more than 50 MA draw." I doubt that's changed much since 99.

If 50ma is max and 20ma is typical, then your 500ma is obviously way too high.
Looks like you found the source of your drain...now to find out why and and a more specific what.
