While I run Amsoil, and have for a long time, I think that the key issue is filtration. I like my Amsoil, but frankly, I'd probably be better off with a nice bypass filtration system on my truck and simply running Rotella. Why I don't take my own advice...well, I don't know. I'm lazy and "cheap," I guess.
I definitely noticed a difference in my transmission and rear differential when I switched to Amsoil. In my rear diff, my limited slip actually started to work!!!
They make good products, but are definitely more expensive. Just make sure whatever you're doing is filtered well, and oil analysis isn't a bad idea every once in awhile.
