Well, I did it! Yesterday I ordered an 08 F350 Lariat CC SWB SRW 4x2 PSD Auto. The color will be oxford white (primary), pueblo gold (secondary) and camel interior. I debated endlessly about the color, 4x2 versus 4x4 and whether or not to trade-in my 98 Accord. Without getting into the details, I believe I chose what will work best for me in the end.

I want to thank everybody on this forum for tolerating my dumb newbie questions over the past 2 months. I've never owned a big truck before, and so it's been a big learning experience for me. You all have helped tremendously! Now, onto my5th wheel selection /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'll post some pics and opinions once I receive it. I've been told it should arrive in 6-8 weeks.

Thanks again!!!

Gary, Congratulations. If you're a "newbie" with a 100 posts, I must be a........pollywog (the Navy guys will know what I mean /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif ).

As another "newbie" here (I lurked a long time before I started posting though), I appreciate new member's posts since they often cover the same questions I have now researching or will have after I get a truck. Hopefully some of my questions and comments will be helpful to some of the other members of TDS. Responses to my posts have been helpful, knowledgeable, and have caused me to make changes in my planned truck (e.g. 4x4 instead of 4x2 on a DRW and getting a 4.10 instead of a 4.30 with the Tow Boss...still deciding to go with a 3.73, but that's another question for the group. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif ).

Did you check out the competition's diesel trucks? Any particular reason you went with the F-350, instead of a 3500? I don't want to start a war here, just curious.

Thanks for the congrats. I didn't trade in the Accord yet, but probably may. That was another decision that is still paining me. I would like use the Accord for my short 3-mile drive to/from work. But then again I didn't want to leave an expensive truck like this sitting in the garage alot (plus I need the garage space). I asked several service people and it seems like short drives shouldn't hurt the truck too much, as long as I take it out for a "good" ride once or twice a week to get the engine hot.

Is anybody else making frequent short drives with their 08? Any issues with doing that?

Thanks
Gary

Thanks for the congrats. I looked at the Dodges somewhat, but not in too much detail (i.e. didn't read those forums). I didn't really consider the GMC/Chevy at all. Main reasons were 1) I liked the looks, shortbed length and high payload/towing capacity of the Ford, 2) I had X-Plan pin already, 3) I didn't like the looks of the GMC/Chevy, 4) Although I kinda liked the looks of the Dodge, I didn't like some things about the rest of the truck, and it didn't have a few of the nice features Ford did. But I must confess the new engine, renen issues, and squabble with Navistar does concern me quite a bit.

As my dumb luck would have it, the very night I got home after the order, I saw a TV ad promoting $2500 cash back on the new 07 GMC Sierra (or something like that) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif Maybe I should have looked at those in more detail!

Gary, thanks for the reply.

Sounds like all good reasons to me, esp the X-plan PIN. Looks are minor to me but important nonetheless. I'm still impressed with the looks of my F-250 after 7 years, even with the scratches, dings, dents, and dirt. I can't imagine having a truck with great towing cap and power but regretting the choice of color or not liking the looks. A minor concern, but a lot like a splinter under a fingernail...a constant, low level pain.

The shake out of the new 6.4L is one of the reasons I'm waiting for the fall to start my serious research, i.e. test rides and haggling at dealerships (although I just got some good "insider" info from T-Bone and CaptSkup on commercial sales that sounds pretty promising). TDS is my primary source of info for the 6.4L (don't know anyone with one) so I'm reading all the related 6.4L posts very closely. I'm also waiting to see what the competition does with their 08 models, plus see what kind of incentives are available. Also gotta save a bit more for a heftier down payment since I'll be keeping the gasser for beer and cigar runs, and oh ya, groceries too. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif

Gary,

I bought a F-250 CC PSD 2WD Lariat, Oxford White, Pueblo Gold, 2 weeks ago and am really happy with the truck. I chose Ford over Dodge and Chevy because we go to a lot of horse competitions and you can't throw a rock without hitting a F-250 or F-350, with the Fords out numbering the Chevys and Dodges 80% to 20%. All of our "horse friends" own Fords, so for us it was a no-brainer. We will have 4 or 5 people in the truck and the extra leg room in the Ford is great.

We chose the 2WD over the 4WD because of the smoother ride, lower maintenance cost, and a little bit better mpg. If we do get stuck it will probably be at a competition where someone with a 4WD PSD can pull us out.

We are getting 14 to 15mpg in combined city / highway driving and about 11mpg with our 2 horse trailer.

Congrats on your truck - you will love it.
