I'm new to the forums and have been reading alot about DP Tuner chips. I've currently got a Superchips programmer but I want something thats adjustable on the fly and doesn't skyrocket my egt's so easily. So I'm thinking about the 6 position chip.

The questions I have are what is my ford dealer going to say about this? Will I have any problems with them when it comes to warranty stuff?

And second is this something I'll be able to intsall myself? I'm pretty mechanically inclined I just don't know a whole lot about computer type stuff. Thanks, any suggestions would be great.

It pretty much goes on a dealer by dealer basis.

Some dealers sell trucks with chips. Some refuse to even work on them for any (even minor, unrelated) warranty work. One of the stories I have heard over and over is. The person's dealership knows the chip is in and they turn a blind eye on minor warranty work. But if something serious breaks (chip related or not).....The Ford Factory rep swoops in and denies all warranty coverage. Then you are looking at up to a $10,000.00 bill for a new motor.

A popular (and abused) saying around here is "You pay to play".

As for installing it yourself it is pretty simple. Click here for chip installation instructions.

Jody Tipton (Dp Tuner) is the way to go with a chip. Great programs and a very nice guy.

Another option some people try is to buy another PCM and have Jody reprogram it for more performance. Then if they need warranty work they just slip in the original, all stock PCM, and take it to the dealer.

I"ll let you decide on the morals of all this.

Hope this helps,

Tom
