I have another question as it draws nearer to me buying a new truck. If I got a 6 spd 4wd super cab or a crew cab f250, what would the mileage be on the highway?? What about an auto? I hear the C**mins will get 18-20 on the road. Is the 6.0 capable of this? I am sure that the 6.0 is more powerful, but what about fuel efficient?

Thanks
Jason

My 4x4 cc swb gets 20 @ 65, 18 @ 75, 17 @ 80. Luck of the draw - each truck is different.

Isn't that the truth. Not one seems to be consistant.

I get 18 mpg all the time in my city driving. I average around 20-21 running 70 mph on the highway. My best ever though is in my sig. By the way, the new cummins will not get 18-20 on the road. I know about 6 people all with new 600 Cummins and the one that gets the best mileage gets about 15 running 70 mph. Put a trailer behind it, and hello 8-9 mpg.

You'll get a big spread on MPG with the 6.0. Some get 20, some get 10.
But the auto gets worse for sure. I get 12-13 mixed, heavy towing (14K) 7-9 mpg. I do know if you drive it very hard, mileage will go down drastically. I don't get very good mileage, but again I have a dually 4x4 auto CC, w/ heavy F/R bumpers and a loaded toolbox. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Just for everyones info I have a Dodge 2004.5 600 4X4 3500 SRW 6speed 3.73 gears and I hand calculated the mileage since new and it's now running unloaded between 22-24 mpg with 26,000 miles on odo. So just like all brand trucks some get better than others due to many factors.
Driver, fuel, additives, oil...etc. I run Howes/MMO mix and full synthetic oil in engine, diffs, and tranny, shift at lower rpms and coast where I can. I also have a Xzillaraider Race box, and AFE intake which didn't really affect my mileage.

Truck in sig:

18-19 @ 70mph / 2krpm, unloaded. Personal best, 19.8 (hilly terrain). Long bed tank (38g); best tank, 720 miles, fill was 37.2.

Towing 6.5k#, 14.5 @ 100k (62.3mph), 11.5 @ 70(+).

Best way to get good economy is to keep it at 2k rpm, & little or no ideling-stop/go. You want to be careful about that though, and run it into the 3k range fairly often to keep it blown out & clean. I find that by accelerating onto the ramps aggressively I can get the rpms up & keep 'er clean, and let the truck settle int 2k for the run. I can hold 70/2k up a 6% grade all day unloaded, and 65/2.5k w/ the trailer.

My 2004 F250 crew cab short box TorqShift auto trans milesge is between 14-16mpg. This truck has 35,000+ miles. I drive 50 miles to work and 50 miles back home Monday-Friday. Ninety percent of this driving is highway mileage. I set cruise to run the engine at 2000rpm whick works out to be 70-72mph. Sometimes I kick the cruise to allow the truck to run at 80mph for several miles or more depending on traffic.

The only additional weight added to the truck is approximately 100 pounds in the bed and the additional weight of the aluminum diamond plate Diamondback bed cover. I do not tow anything at this time.

[/ QUOTE ] Not as good as one would hope, I agree, but...

my 98 F-250 SD, SC, short-box, V-10(auto) NEVER saw better than 12.2 in the 4 years I had it. It usually ran about 11.8, under the same driving conditions I have w/ the PSD.

I have never seen 18, most of the time in summer it's in the 16's and winter it's in the low 15's here in the north country. Mine is 4x4 auto, 31,000 miles.

I just completed vacation--traveling round trip (1760 miles) from Fort Collins CO through Yellowstone and Teton Parks and back on 86 gallons of fuel (20.3 mpg). Variety of driving conditions from 35-45 mph through the parks, 70 mph on the two lane highways and 80-85 mph on I-80 and I-25.

I have never seen 18 mpg in town--it just doesn't happen with my truck, but consistently see 19-20 mpg on the interstate at 75-85 mph.

It seems as if the mileage continues to get better as I put more miles on the truck--as I averaged over 20 mpg at 80+ mph from Rock Springs WY to Fort Collins. I must note that it was also the first time in over 20 years that I didn't encounter any wind on I-80 between Rock Springs and Cheyenne.

2003 F250, CC, 3.73 with TorqueShift. 42,000 miles (95% highway)
