another new starter???????

Bought the truck in Nov. '05 and a new starter had just been put on. This am sounded like starter was spinning but would not engage flywheel. Could the replacement have been defective or maybe just not tightened?? Any ideas? Also, truck getting harder to start. When cold need to key the ignition a few times until truck starts and when it finally does, boy does it SMOKE (white smoke) Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like batteries low/ bad connection or bad starter.
Hard starting will slowly drain batteries.
Smoke/ repeateded keying is most likely glow plug system problem.
