I have a question about the high idle mod which I intend to do once my upfitter switches arrive. My truck is a job 1 and I have not done any flash updates
I have read the write up (Sticky) from SmokeyWren along with other write ups but I still have a few questions.
There seems to be two ways to perform the mod. https://www.fleet.ford.com/truckBBAS...tml/Q162R1.pdf Depending which wire you connect to the upfitter switch.
I understand flipping the upfitter switch is required along with the condition stated below.
2. The other way to raise idle to high idle 1200 RPM by flipping the upfitter switch, regardless if there is an electrical load. Using PTO wire Yellow/Green
I have read on this site that running at idle could/will cause engine problems. My question is; since I use my truck at idle frequently with no electrical loads, should I use option 2 to minimize engine damage risk?
Am I reading the schematics correctly, or am I way off course?
Any feedback is welcome.

- Parking brake applied.
- Foot off of service brake
- Vehicle in PARK (automatic trans.)
- Foot off of clutch (manual trans.)
- Foot off of accelerator pedal
- Vehicle speed is 0 mph (stationary)
- Brake lights functional
- Engine at a stable base idle speed
