I am out of town working and my trans. is acting up. '01 auto, 62k miles, stock, no temp gauge for trans. Had been shifting fine, parked, returned, reverse was fine, put in "D" and I thought I was slipping(spinning) in oil or on hot asphalt. It was 102 degrees out. Tach went up to 2000 and slowly pulled forward. Once in 2nd gear it was better but slipped again in third. This continued for several miles in stop/go traffic. Engine died twice when I came to a stop. Re-started easily and of course "slipped" as I got going. I stopped for 30 minutes, (I figured to let it cool down, and I did check trans oil level-which is full). Drove much better, but still not right. I have driven very short trips (running to wally world) the last two days and haven't noticed the problem. But I have been very slow on accelerating.
I have read many posts the last couple of hours on this problem.

I would like to get home Monday-300 miles of interstate. I have read about rebuilts, exchanges, and BTS. I am not far from BTS, but don't want to spend that kind of money unless I really need to. Any thoughts and/or suggestions of what my problem is and is it safe to try to get home?

I got the same problem with mine , an 03 with 36225 miles on it.
A BTS would be great but I cant get a return call nor can I get return Email from BTS. Your tranny is tosted. Im going to get one from the dealer tuesday and try to get I warranted.

before you get a new one, you might want to try changing the fluid, apparently when it gets hot and too thin you have problems. Maybe some thicker transmission fluid might help it pull a few more thousand miles...

I put "extra" trans fluid in yesterday and seemed to shift ok. Today sent from R to Drive and slipped again. Seems to be ok once up to speed-60mph and in OD. I hope I can get home tomorrow. Is the proper thing to do: change/flush fluid, look for metal or crud in the pan, put it back together and hope for the best. Or?

I had problems that went away after I ripped my trans open, cleaned things up and changed fluid. So I say it's worth a try. If you go deeper than just the cover/filter then be warned there are check balls that will try to lose themselves and you should note where they go. You will also need an inch/lbs torque wrench to reassemble correctly. I also had incredibly bad slipping after I damaged the tab that holds the wireing harness/connector on the right side of trans (passenger) It might be worth carefully removing that connector and making sure it is clean.
