I am tired of looking for a good Dana60 from a F350 to put into my truck and I was wondering if anyone out there has attempted to use a different axle for our trucks?
I keep finding D60's for our trucks but they want $900 ++ for them.
I know for a fact I can get a 60 from a late model dodge for less because they came in some 3/4 ton trucks and 1 tons also. Seems to me that I could use one of them for my truck and weld perches on there much cheaper. But I feel like there must be a reason they are cheaper. Does anyone know why that might be?
How about if I use a Dana 50 from a superduty truck? I know the pattern may be different but I need wheels anyhow.
Maybe there is a better axle out there that I dont even know about??
Anyone have some opinions they would like to share? I am open to anyones ideas about this because I hate my TTB 50. I have rebuilt every bearing in the thing and it is ready to go but I need an alignment again. They cant get it right and I am tired of wearing tires crooked. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

What can you come up with? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/depressed.gif
Thanks, Eric

As far as using one from a dodge, is the "pumpkin" on the same side as one for a Ford

the differential on a dodge is on the same side as a ford, but gm's are on the other side. does anyone know if a gm would fit if it were flipped over?

im pretty sure u cant flip the axle around. I would keep looking for a f350 axle. It will bolt right up and would be a lot easier.

I think you can find a Superduty (99+) axles fairly reasonable, the D50 is a great axle and the 10.5 for the rear is nice. The only other thing is getting wheels for the new axles, new ones are 8-170mm and ours are 8x6.5 I believe.. Plus you can get them with 3.73's, 4.10's or 4.30's, gasser axles would work fine for our trucks. Scotty

you can turn any Dana 60 any direction you want and still make it travel the way you want it.They sell reverse cut gears in just about any ratio for them now. They are more expensive than the standard gears but it is an answer if you want to flip it and change the pinion angle for really large lifts.

Hey, I asked this same question up in the 94-97 section cause I have found the newer SD axles getting much more common also. doesn't seem to be much of a definitive response so hopefully someone will chime in with first hand knowledge. I wouldn't mind swapping both axles and buying new wheels(want to anyway) so the benefit of the rear disks would be a plus but someone mentioned the master cylinder may have to be changed but I don't know why.
