Everything I heard is they are great, and they have high output modles for guys with snow plows or just want extra amps there when needed such as a winch. I will be upgrading
Any Problems With Db Electrical Alternators?
I have heard many recommendations here to buy DB electrical alternators instead of autozone or other chain brands.
Now that the DB Electrical alternators have been out there more than a few years . . . Has anyone had any problems with their DB Elect. alternator? Are they lasting 100k miles?

Yeah, I know lots of guys say they are good....but has anyone had any problems with them? Are they lasting a long time - 6 or 7 years - 100k?

I don't know if there is anyone with that many miles or not, I probably have 70k on mine in about two years though, is that good enough?
I had idler and tensioner issues I guess, because I ate 5 alts in 6 months. The last one was a DB and they sent me another one right away, with a call tag for UPS to send the other one back with. I told them when I bought the first one that I had ate 4 up to then, put a new belt on, checked all my cables, ect...
They had no problem with the fact that it wasn't their alternators fault it fried, the truck ate it. I then replaced both those items, with the new DB, and have had NO issues since.
They cost no more than a stock one anyway,,, why worry about such HI miles and years? :icon_rolleyes:
I JUST Ordered my DB HI TORQUE STARTER TODAY too! LOL I am tired of crawling under the truck sometimes to start it....when the solenoid doesn't catch.

Looks like their customer service is good within the warranty period (1 yr). But if no one here has more than 70k on one, that is not saying much for the product? I am NOT trying to bash them, only trying to figure out if all the hype is for real. I am hoping it is, since I need an alternator and their prices are right.
Well, on the advice of this list, I ordered an alternator from DB. Should arrive this Friday. Thanks for the recommendation.
db alternator where to buy?
where in canada or (saskatchewan ) can a person buy one?? or where to order one... I have a new 2004 and so far I ate 2 of them.. I got mine from PARTS SOURCE.... same as CTC..Well, on the advice of this list, I ordered an alternator from DB. Should arrive this Friday. Thanks for the recommendation.
I haven't bought their alternators, but I just bought a hi torque starter and am currently waiting for my second one from them. The first one didn't do much more than click most of the time. I will say this though... Their customer service is by far the best I have EVER experienced. THE BEST. Period. And, I will also say that when the starter did work (about 30% of the time) it started my truck faster than I ever thought possible. I cannot wait to try the new starter and when my alternators die I will not hesitate to buy those from dbelectrical.

Yep - somewhere between when this post was originally written and when you bought yours, DB decided "Made in China" was a good idea....
For your replacement, might I suggest:
6G Series High Output Alternator with Extra Heavy Duty Components

I'm afraid your DB is a paperweight at this point - unless you can find a local alternator shop to rebuild it with quality parts.

For future reference to anyone thinking about db, just look the other way. I had their starter and alternator, both crapped out after about a yr or so.

For a sad db saga, go to diesel*garage*com and do a search on "DB alternator group buy". One poster ordered 14 so-called high power alternators, not one tested (I think half or so were tested) met the high power rating; all were sent back. Come to find out, db knew all along they couldn't meet the rating. I wouldn't buy from DB if you paid me. I hate liars.
Another poster ordered a high power alternator; the one he got had a different - and much less rating - than what he ordered. He didn't have time to find out if he got what he ordered or the lessor rating alternator and he never posted - AFAIK - any test results. That's pretty piss poor service, IMO.

Well, I installed a DB Electric 170 amp alternator on my 2000 SD with a 7.3 in 2006, after I got some bogus information from a (unnamed) national store chain that does alot of batteries. They said my stock alternator was shot as it had low output at idle. I replaced it with a DB alternator which lasted until 2013 when the bearings went out in the alternator. I replaced it with another brand that had a heavy duty case from 6G Series High Output Alternator with Extra Heavy Duty Components

When my original 2002 OEM alternator bearings went out a couple of years ago I installed a 6G Oriley's with a lifetime guarantee. Short notice need.
I figure there is an Orileys nearby almost anywhere I will be and a topside alternator change is not hard or time consuming.
I bought a rebuild kit, rebuilt the OEM alternator diode bridge and case bearings and had it tested, so I have a good spare. I really did the rebuild more to see if it was difficult, it was not.

DB Electrical alternators are not working so well on our bikes.
last June, I bought my '02 7.3L Excursion from a guy up in Kalispell, Montana...
I noticed the hood insulation was really loose, but didn't do anything about it at the time.
at about a 800 miles it was throwing a code that I have since forgotten.
In Price, Utah I took the truck to Landon Diesel Services and they said the Alternator was totally packed with fiberglass insulation and barely making 11.9 volts ......
they said if I would purchase a replacement, they would install it for me. They cleared all the codes, and none have come back since.
so, I bought a MechMan 320A so it could handle the big Warn Winch on the front.
glad I did, because we have 3 big dogs that go where we go, and at idle, and both front and Rear A/C fans on high, it idles at 14.3 volts.
No regrets on spend the bucks for MechMan.

in my Goldwing motorcycle world, they last just barely long enough for the warranty to expire.
Horrible Reputation in my m/c group.
In fact, none of us will buy them, period.
we have had reports of many of them burning up in less than 90 days, and the warranty replacements maybe last that long.

John, after starting what is your voltage while the glow plugs are still on?it idles at 14.3 volts.
