Hi Everyone;

I'm just wondering what the quality is like on some of those bolt-on 05-06 grills, designed to install (without modificaiton) to 1999-2004 trucks. If you haven't seen these, here's a link:

I'm just wondering what's the quality like. Is this chrome covered plastic or what? I'm tempted....

Yes. I bought one from E-Bay. Don't know if it is the same seller but it fits like a charm. Easy to install and 100% OEM factory looking. Bolts right up to the existing header panel with no modifications! By the way my truck is a 2001 F250 but the grill fits perfect and looks a whole heck of a lot better than the older version.

Made my own, took about an hour and cost $174 + frt. Looks better than a mass produced ebaymodel as I could fine tune it to match the bumper and lights.

Got any pics or tips for modifying one? I just got an 05 grill I was going to modify. I had seen the ones modified for 99-04 trucks and they mentioned the lower clips worked with the header panel. It looks like they just milled down the lower edge, but when I compared my 99 to my 05 they didn't look like they'd line up.

put masking tape on the lower chrome bar and on the bottom of a hand held saber saw and hack off about 1.75-1.90 inches, sand to fit and you are done. to replace the lower clips that get cut off I just sunk a 2 inch self taping sheet metal screw into each side of the lower honey combs that went into the plastic behind (crude but functional, colored them black with a sharpie pen). Since there is not stress on the grill to fall off this is plenty.

I left about 7/16 of the flat front portion of the lower chrome bar intact. a quarter inch remaining might have been better as I had very littel bumper clearance when done. The plastic cuts well and you can even make 1/8 inch clean up cuts no problem. The chrome is actual chrome plated on to what looks like coper. You can also fine tune by adjusting the bumper if you hack too much or done't hack enough. It is a very easy project and looks professional. The masking tape is so yo udont scratch the chrome with the saw foot. th grill is about 191 delivered form 1st ford parts or the other interenet guys. just confirm you are gettign the correct grill as there are a couple styles. As for pics, just look at eh adds on ebay, that is what yours will look like.
