I've had my oil tested several times using Blackstone, and every time they tell me some numbers are high. I did a search on here and saw some other reports, and they all said sort of the same thing. So, just wondering if any other IDI users here ever got a great report from them? At least my coolant does not show up in the oil!

Attached (I hope) is my report for my 88 7.3 and my John Deere 4400. The 7.3 is about 6 times bigger, so I would expect the numbers to be a lot higher myself.

thanks

Wayne

I felt the same way too but it was not to be... I knew I was cavitating and that coolant was getting in the cylinders.. I finally stopped driving the truck when it required 6 gallons of water to drive 32 miles round trip to work and back. That motor died a wet death but it ran till I took it off the road.. I was lucky to say the least with that much water entering a cylinder and not sending a rod and piston thru the block. Blackstone is honest. They have no reason to be otherwise. They just report whats in the sample. Nothing more. The sample quailty depends on how you collect it too. I always run the motor till its up to operating temps. Then I wipe clean the drain plug and start draining the oil. I let it drain for a few seconds, then take a sample and close the bottle. Later on I wipe clean the bottle and send it off for testing. Allowing the oil to drain some before you take a smaple will give you a lower metal count. Just the removel of the drain plug will cause some metal to be sheared from the threads and become part of your sample so next time let it drain some oil before you take a sample. Remember we have around 11 quarts to get a sample from. No way will you run out of oil before the sample is taken...
