Has anyone heard or used a 4* advance CPS ? If so what advantage or disadvantage are we looking at ,it comes from IH so I'm guessing it has a good purpose but what?

Never heard of it..(sure doesnt mean it dont exist!) But timing can be changed in a chip.. tuner..or PCM reflash. No real reason for the CPS to be messed with I dont think,,, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

Not a CPS, but the original early '99 PCM code (XLE4) had an advance cruise power function programed into it. It helped fuel economy at cruise speeds. Other engine manufacturers had similar programing at that time. The EPA found a reason to object to it under the guise that it was not tested and certified during the engine certification phase (Note: Testing that feature was not specified in the testing criteria, thus it was not tested). Remember the huge fines that were extracted from the engine manufacturers in that time frame. The manufacturers had to remove that feature from the programing in future engines and reprogram existing engines when they came in for work. Thus many of the unrequested reflashes from XLE4 to XLE7 and XLE8 that have been reported on this forum. However, there was a shift flair problem experienced by some, not all, with the XLE4, reprograming did help those who had the problem.

Its some trick involving changing the CPS out from a DT466 motor. But they arent 4* advanced, they are 4* retarded on our trucks.

They put a powerstroke CPS into the DT to make the DT run advanced. If you put a DT sensor into a powerstroke, it would be retarded.

It has to do with the location of the sensor inside the housing. They all read the same "timing disk" inside the motor.

Now if you physically removed the timing disk, and rotated *IT* 4*, then yes, you could change the timing.

All your changing tho is the INJECTION timing. Not the mechanical timing of the valves.
