I realize most everyone comes on here when they finally run into an issue with their truck but I gotta say, i don't see enough posts about positive things.
i think the 7.3 liter PSD is an absolutely fantastic motor. I'm on my second one, my first one was in a 97 F350 Crew cab long box 4X4 off road, beautiful truck, that sucker was sold a few years ago with 288,000 miles on it and she was running better than ever. I only sold it because i wanted a "SUPER DUTY", it's the best truck on the road in my opinion.
My 01 is an F350 Lariat, Black. My 7.3 has 168,000 miles on it, muffler delete and I love that whistle. I have an edge evolution and in the race setting I get 16-17 mpg and more than enough zip for my taste. I haven't even tried the extreme setting.
Whenever i get into my 01, and I've had it for 3 years now, i know it's going to start and run and not leave me stranded, if it does, there are plenty of knowledgeable folks on this board that can walk me right through anything I need help with. I'm glad this site is here. heck, even after three years, i still get excited about jumping in it and taking a drive, I used to groan when my wife asked me to run to the store, now I jump off my chair and fire that black beauty up and head down the road.
Ford did it right when they designed the super duty.

Yep, as my sig says, I bought mine new and plan to drive it until it croaks.

I've been really lucky a few times in my lifetime, and one time was the day I went in to order my SuperDuty V-10, only to be told I was too late for the '99.5 model year. They had "balanced out" all the '99.5 V-10s, so I had to either order the 7.3L diesel or wait several months until they cranked up the 2000 model year production of V-10s. So I reluntantly ordered the diesel. Man, am I glad I did. :)

While waiting for my new truck to be delivered, I found this website. Back then the name was Ford-Diesel.com. And I've been here a few hours almost every day since then. :) That's about 3,500 days, so my post count is not so high if you divide it by 3,500 days. :)

you mean to tell me that "smokeywren" was at a ford dealer trying to purchase a V10????:nono: No way, as knowledgable as you are about diesels i'd of figured you had diesels for longer than 8 years. I used to be all about big block gas motors, I still am to an extent, but they can't compete with diesels anywhere but off road and at the track (for now). I would love to have a 6.4 or the new 6.7 when it comes out but they are too fragile right now, the 7.3 is just so durable. Don't get me wrong, i would jump at the chance to get one of those 08/09's but I can't afford the price tag. Anyway, I'm extremely happy to keep my 7.3 liter.

I love it!

Well I may be new to Ford's and the PSD, but I love my truck!

While I just purchased it, I have been driving it for work the last four years. Since I knew it was well taken care of and the boss practically gave it away to me, ($5,000), I knew it was time to add another diesel to the family.

I currently own three diesel trucks from the Big Three. A '91 Dodge D-250 Cummins with the original Super B diesel, a '98 Chevy K-2500 with the 6.5L Diesel, and now for the first time a Ford. This Ford is by far the strongest and nicest running diesel I own. It was sure nice to load up the family last night to go out to dinner and all five of us have a seat...the four doors are amazing!

I also love the DieselStop. It's nice learning about the truck and how to fix all those things that just need fixin. Thanks to all.

My truck will be 10 years old on D-Day, June 6th. But this is not my first diesel. I put over 100,000 miles on a '79 Audi 5000S diesel stick shifter, back right after the days of the last "gas crisis" in the late 1970s. I got rid of it, not because it was worn out, and not because I didn't love it, but because Porsche-Audi charged outrageous prices for common replacement parts. When a $5 part cost me $67, I swore off German vehicles for good, and bought my first Toyota. So for the last 23 years all my cars have been either Toyota or Honda, but my towing machine is a Ford diesel. :)

I have owned 5 Dodge trucks form 1993-1999. I went into the Dodge dealer to order a new 3500 CC SRW Diesel. The Dealer though by the time the new truck came in they would have 0%-36 mo. But when the truck showed up the rate was 5.99.
So I drove to a larger Ford truck Dealer, I asked to take a new truck on a test drive. I realy liked the power of the NEW 6.0L, but Ford did not have and good programs on the new 6.0l but on the OLD 7.3 they had 0% for 36 mo.
So I asked the dealer to Look for a F350 7.3l 4X4 CC SRW Lariat and he did. My Dodge Days are over thanks to Ford...........This may have been a diffront store if I bought the new 6.0L:icon_wink:

The way everyone talks about 7.3 L engines, I wish my CC had one. I might still own it. My 6.0 taught me never to buy Ford again, and I don't readily say "never." I had other problems as well, which include water coming into body cavity during driving in heavy rains.

I previously owned 2 diesels, one Volkswagen and one Nissan. Neither of those gave me any trouble, though they were not a heavy duty truck application. In any case, to each his own, and good luck.

I ordered my truck new in 2002 and have loved it since I ordered it. My dad has one of the very first 03 6.0L's and I would take my truck any day. I've got 165k on the ticker and probably more than that with the larger tires and no speedo correction for a while. I keep telling myself it is the last truck I will ever own. I won't let it die!

I've owned my '01 7.3 for a few months now, and I LOVE driving it down California's I-5 without a care, cruising at 70mph, listening to the engine sing, and enjoying the scenery.

I've also developed an ability to distinguish a PowerStroke just by hearing it, without seeing the actual truck; I guess most of you can do that any day?

I like my truck - can't be beat for hauling and towing. It pulls and handles the camper and m/c trailer like a champ.

It is not used as a daily driver - not very practicle for that, so I take the car.

Bought a 92 7.3 IDI brand new, put over 600,000 kms on it, lots of bush miles etc. Was on my 3rd tranny and 2nd engine though. Still all in all, it was a good truck.

Bought my 99 CC used with 170,000 & change km's on it and it has been a far better truck, by far the best vehicle I have owned. By summer it'll have 500,000 km's on it, the only thing I have had to do was ball joints, hpop seals, cps, brakes, belts and a tensioner pully. Crossing my fingers about the tranny though, but it still shifts nice and I baby it. The previous owner pulled a 5th with construction equipment around and had it chipped, so it likely wasn't babied that much before I got it. The body has held up way better than my 92 did as well. although I am getting some serious paint disappearing around the wheel well areas. When the warm weather returns I will pull the valve covers off for the first time and do the glow plugs as it doesn't want to start at -20c or colder anymore, from reading this board I am thinking I may as well replace the wiring harnesses under the covers while I am at it too.

I am reluctant to pay $4000 to repaint a truck that is declining in value so much, but on the other hand from what I have seen from guys that bought 6.0 litres I am more reluctant so go that route so..

I just realized the other day I haven't even replaced a u-joint in it yet, which is absolutely unheard of in all of the trucks I have owned. I pull a 24' travel trailer through the mountains each summer too.

I'm on my second black Excursion Limited- (the first, a 2000, had to be sold due to job loss).
I love the truck. It is HIGHLY unlikely anything will ever be built again like it. When I take a dirt nap, the hole will have to be big enough to fit the truck in there with me (or just use it as the hearse to save a little space)

I absolutely love my 99 5.4L 250. I love driving it, cleaning it, showing it off, everything about it. Of course, all vehicles have their own problems, but nothing major that has made me not want to keep it and continue to drive it. I plan on driving it til it drops, haha, which hopefully we be another 10 yrs or so.

Yep, spend any amount of time on this website and one could start to get paranoid.....I do at times. Especially after buying a "used" truck, and not knowing every single detail of the repairs, maintenance, and quality of parts and fluids that were (or weren't) used. Every time I read this stuff, I start wondering......."Is my ICP bad, how about the IPR, do my injectors sound normal, is that smoke the right color, is that too much smoke, is that a cackle I heard, did the previous owner even check the coolant SCA levels, if not does my engine have cavitation issues, when are the HPOP o-rings going to fail, how much longer will the ball joints last, is it charging correctly, are the glow plugs going bad................and the list goes on, and on, and on........

Love that 7.3

I'm on my 3rd 7.3 Powerstroke. My brother-in-law is also on his 3rd one. We and our wives travel for 3-4 months a year pulling with about 20K gross weights. Until I found this website, I was fully prepared to buy a 2003 6.0L truck, but held back until they had a year of production at Ford. Lucky me.

I traded my 2000 PSD for my 2001PSD to get a dually to handle the trailer and carry a bed tank. Otherwise, I'd be pushing 200K miles on a 2000 PSD. My primary desire is for reliability. I religiously change fluids and expendable items (belts, hoses etc) early so I don't break down in Antelope Butt, Wyoming.

My current truck is just over 120K miles and I love it. I do keep my eye out for a similar truck in white with low mileage... living in the south makes you appreciate a white truck. I don't really expect to find one, though. But I'm committed to driving a 7.3 for towing as long as I can keep going.

I love both of my diesels:thumbsup:. I hate to say it, but I may go back to gas if the price of diesel doesn't come back down to the price of gas(2.69 vs 1.98 now) and if the mileage doesn't get better on the diesels:disappointed:.
