I just want to hear from people who are, I don't need 100 people saying Propane is the devil :wink2:

I'm looking for more MPG and right now propane is cheap compared to gas.
I was looking at the MSD propane kit.

Different truck, but I've been running Propane for a while now. I don't know if I necessarily get better mileage out of it, but it does help on the power end of things. I've had it for about 170k now and no issues at all.

I think it was the Powershot2000 or something like that. Go HERE! and that's what I got. I lied about having no issues though. If I run out my propane tank and leave it empty but still turn the system on there is no propane to run through the solenoid to cool it and I burn them out. BUT! each time I do that, I call them up and they just send me a new one. No questions asked. I can't believe it, THAT is customer service. But that is the only problem I have. And I cause it. If I change out my tank whenever it is empty, I'd never have any issues at all.

Just wondering, what do you guys do when you need to cross a bridge or pass through a tunnel and they don't allow propane tanks ?

I've never seen or heard of a bridge or tunnel that doesn't allow propane tanks. We have no tunnels around here in the central US. Chicagoans are boring like that. Sorry. I can't help you there.

So do they stop and inspect every single vehicle that might be carrying a propane tank? What if you have one in your trunk? So not a single camper can pass those sites? They all have propane tanks on them.

When going through a propane prohibited tunnel or bridge, the tank has to be turned off. In this case, the switch to the system, turns the tank off. In a motorhome or travel trailer, you turn them off at the tanks to be "compliant".

I've just seen in this area NY/NJ when traveling "No Propane Tanks" signs to the best of my recollection when approaching tunnels and lower levels of bridges.

Might be different rules/regs in your part of the woods. Personally, I hate going anywhere near NYC, and New Joysee

I'd rather go the same distance out to sea in a fishing boat

Most larger tunnels and bridges along the Eastern US are posted "no propane tanks".
Just shutting off the valve does not meet the laws requirement.
They really mean NO tanks.
It is looked upon as a breach of national security if they catch you crossing or going through one with the tank. They view it as a potential explosive device/bomb.
If you have a propane tank you are excluded from being able to use the bridge/tunnel and must find a way around it.
The fines are quite hefty if they catch you. Think thousands of dollars.
They do not effectively enforce this, but there have been cases of 'selective enforcement' periods where they randomly check RV's. If they find a propane tank, they typically just write a ticket.

I always have my system on when I'm driving. But, it's metered to start adding at around 5psi of boost and will gradually go up from there. As for filling the tank... I have not established a pattern at all. It takes a while to use a tank unless you drive around at high boost levels

I have never ran propane on a personal vehicle but have installed them on several trucks and have heard both good and bad. I have ran natural gas on my 2008 duramax and seen great results, went from 12 to 30 MPG around town and 35 on freeway. It also added a 100hp.

I have propane and love it. I find usage to be about 10:1. My propane tank is 6.8 gallons (DOT approved and frame mounted), my diesel tank is 40 gallons. You can pick up mileage and power from the setup. I originally had a Bully Dog unit until it failed. The unit I have now I built, very much like the powershot 2000. I used a propane regulator mounted at the tank and set to 0 psi.(modifications made to regulator) run propane hose up to the engine where I have a filter/shut off solenoid. From the solenoid it goes into a NOS nozzle mounted in the air intake.(allows for jetting) The solenoid is operated by a on/off switch in the cab and goes thru an adjustable Hobbs switch. I tapped into the intake system for boost reference and ran a tube back to the regulator. I have my system come on at about 5psi and as boost goes up so does the propane pressure.(just like a boost referenced fuel pressure regulator) The system comes on easy and as your turbo spools up more fuel is added. This system I like better than the one I bought from Bully Dog and can be hidden. I wish I still had a larger propane tank so I wouldn't need to fill so often. Being a frame mounted tank, I ran a remote fuel valve back behind my rear license plate and got a hinged, spring loaded license plate frame. Love pulling into propane shops to fill up and look at confused faces while they fill my tank and swear they thought my truck sounded like a diesel. My Bully Dog system had around 50,000 miles on it and my current setup has about 60,000 miles. Maybe at some time I will try to get pictures and a list together If there is any real intrest.

Do you mean 10:1 as in 10 Tanks of fuel to 1 tank of propane??

That's pretty good.

What type of MPG do you see with your current set-up?
How much does it cost to fill the propane tank?

Thanks,
Dave

We ran propane on a Ford and Case tractor on a large farm back in the early fifties, op cost went way down with less oil changes.
