Hey all. I have a chance to pick up a Banks pyro and boost gauge for a pretty good price. Problem is, the pyro is just the gauge. They left the sending unit in the truck when it was sold.

What type of sending unit/ sensor do I need for this thing to work properly, and where do I get it?

Thanks

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif Whats wrong with the banks guages? Do you even know who makes them? Isspro! I'd buy Isspro (or in this case Banks) before I'd buy autometer.

[/ QUOTE ] might be but I bet the banks arent the same as the ones with issapro on them. I've seen them first hand. boost gauge reading 35 pounds with stock injecters and the pyro aint that great either. sorry just trying to keep someone else from buying gauges twice

Re: Anyone using Banks gages?

I have all three Banks gages and in another truck have all three Autometer gages. I like both sets, I do not think one set is more accurate then the other. The Banks pyro is a little slow to react. The banks style match my 1st. gen. Dodge stock gages well. I can read the Autometer Phantom gages in my Ford easier then the Banks. For a good price I would buy the Banks, but at retail price forget it buy the Autometer.

Re: Anyone using Banks gages?

The Banks guages I had were not very satisfactory. The light (pillar mounted) shined in my eyes and the boost guage was sticky. The pyrometer was off calibration, too. (I checked them at work with instrument calibration standards we have). I replaced them with Isspro EVs, no light shining in the eyes and no more sticking/inaccurate guages.

The Banks pyrometer I had used no separate (amplifier) sending unit, just the thermocouple/lead assemby wired directly to the pyrometer.

Re: Anyone using Banks gages?

Banks Gauges = P.O.S. I had them; Boost was about 32psi with stock injectors, pyro was pretty close though but the gauge pointer when cold would not go any lower than 300deg. I just installed new autometer NV gauges and now everything is right where it should be, boost and egt's sre where they should be now. The only problem with the new gauges is the LED's are very bright, I need to get a potientiometer so I can tone the brightness down a little.

I had the Banks gauges, boost/trans/pyro, for about 5 years. I had no problems about lighting, function, calibration or whatever. I replaced them with ISSPRO only because I wanted a full sweep trans gauge and did all too match.

If it is such a deal try them you can always sell them when you upgrade.

And the ISSPRO sender and wiring will work fine or an Autometer which is the same type.

I like the Isspro's but the only problem I have is they don't like the RF signals coming from the CB radio, especially with the amp on. When I key up the Pyro shoots up and the Transmission guage goes down. The speed at which the needle moves depends on what setting you have your amp set at. This is due to the controller that is used with the guages. I called Isspro and they said "They are trying to get away from the control boxes".

Autometer does not have this problem, they don't use the boxes.
