In my opinion, no they are not especially on these motors. The K&N filters tend not to seal well in the stock air box and let dirt through. Some may have better success with the K&N cone-type filters. I never liked cleaning mine and then waiting for it to dry and then re-oiling it (plus the cost of the oil and cleaner). Many folks here will recommend the TYMAR intake for about $120 or so. The filter are simply replaced for about $25 and they last for a good while with better filtering and airflow. I run a homemade version that uses the same filter as the TYMAR (Donaldson filter), but if I was doing it over I'd just get the TYMAR. Cheers!

I agree the stock airbox is notorious for sealing poorly at best to any brand air filter. There was even a recall on them a long time ago. Get rid of the entire air box and go to an aftermarket intake. they seal much better then the stock unit. I have the Tymar and I am very happy with it.

I would have to second that. I have the FIPK K&N setup that I bought before I discovered this site. Replacing an inexpensive filter is much easier than cleaning a K&N cone filter. Besides, you will learn a bunch talking to Dale at Tymar. About half the price as well. Thats what I would buy if I had it to do over. Especially if you have a 4x4, or spend a lot of time on dirt roads. Just my 2 cents looking back...

I have a home made setup with a K&N cone filter and have been pleased with it. I don't mind cleaning/oiling the filter, it really doesn't take that long to do. Just to the service when you're doing other maintenance and the amount of time really won't matter. It doesn't have to be cleaned all that often, unless you drive in realy dusty areas.

i agree that they dont seal well in the stock filter box (experience) and was also told that turbo applications suck the cotton gauze thru the wire and cause big holes in filter hope this helps kirk

I've had mine about 2 1/2 years and I haven't seen anything like that! Maybe with injectors and a chip (and 40 lbs boost - maybe) but I see 25 lbs all the time and no holes or deformations.

i push almost 40 psi boost and have had no problems with my K&N. i find on this form its always someone elses friends brothers uncle who had a friend that the K&N caved in on. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif i was all scared cause i belived the hype for a while but i have been running K&Ns on all my vehicals, including my dragster hot rod and i have had no dustings or cave-ins.

in short, i agree with busbreath. no problems with the K&N cone filters (thats all i get). thats my opinion on it.
