Exactly how can you tell if the hubs are locked?? Is locked CW or CCW?? Just got a 2000, having to learn the ropes. Coming over from Cummins Land.

locked is clockwise. There should actually be marks on it that says if it is locked or not, but I had a set that it was worn off of. Welcome to the land of that Powerstroke.

Found the owners manual, if I understand correctly, auto would be fully clockwise, and lock is CCW. Is this right?

Don't have auto hubs, so can't confirm that. But you can check to see if any hub is locked by reaching around the tire and grabbing the u-joint to see if it will turn. As long as your transfer case is in 2WD, if the axle won't turn, the hubs are locked.
