After my WTS light debacle, I finally finished hanging the exhaust. Had usually useless brother-in-law here to help burp the air from the schrader valve (had to do the rear brakes in his Suburban afterwards). Jumped right to life and ran smooth as a baby's bottom. No leaks, no vibrations, just pure, unadulterated power.
I'm talking about the Hypermax turbo I've been trying to install since April (many homefront issues keeping me out of the garage).
Ken's rebuild on the pump seems to be dialed in just right with maybe a little room to grow. Empty, I'm seeing 5-7 lbs of boost @ 600-800F on the pyro. Put the camper on tonight and took it for a romp down the highway and saw 8-10 lbs of boost @ 1000F.
I now understand fully the grin factor. It's like a new truck. New starter, injecters, pump ala Ken, and HM turbo. I'm one happy camper and I have many of you to thank. Your insight and observations were instrumental in this project (nearly a quest) so my hats off to Huff, Pete, pdxman, Mel, JD Kline and others. I'm off tomorrow to our hunting land fully loaded with camper 4 wheeler and assorted and sudry tools as well as a stray beer or two. I'll report on Shorty's performance upon my return. Good to hear the turbo is working well. I got mine in a couple of weeks ago, and it is great! My wife says the turbo project must have been worth it, because I get a grin every time I come to a hill, or get on it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

what is the cheapest turbo on the market these days im in high school and cant afford to spend 2600 oon a banks system. what do yall think about getting a turbo out of a powerstroke or cummins?

The Hypermax is the cheapest of the lot- one of the reasons I went that way as I'm basically a cheap SOB and I rationalized that most of my driving is open road loaded up with the camper and boat or 4 wheeler, I could live without the wastegate as I'm not trying to drag race, just give me a little more help at highway speed.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy again from Huff. Very knowledgable and helpful (he ought to be getting a huge stipend from Hypermax due to their poor instructions).
Ken, too is a top-notch vendor. I'll get a better feel for results tomorrow- heading up north for some long awaited R&R so the 4 hour drive will tell me where I'm at.You're right Mel, why did I wait so long- um... it's because "She Who Must Be Obeyed" kept vetoing, and finally caved /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif. She got tired of my whimpering.
I'd like to make it to the IDI weekend but I've got a crew lined up to help us build a "garage" on our land over the 4th, but I'm sure I'll get to one soon- with or without darling bride. Have good weekend all!

The good thing about Kens IP's, are he just doesn't crank up the fuel to make the extra fuel unusable. He actaully reworks the govenor a little to get the power and have reasonable EGT's. My truck has a maxed out IP, and his injectors, and I cannot touch 1200. BUT, it will totally haul arse when you put your foot into it. Boost comes on very strong and the power is unreal. It is hard to believe the pump does all this. It was almost like the truck was dea with that old IP on there. Ken deserves a huge hats off by us IDI'ers. Scotty
