At what point in upgrades do you need to upgrade HPOP?

Can a DP with a 120 max be suitable with the stock HPOP? Read a lot of good stuff on the Terminator, a lil pricey. At what point does it become necessary?

Since you have an early 99, your oil pump won't have the ability to keep up with the 120 tune. A late 99 pump should but not the early 99. My pump will only hold 1600psi with my 120 tune. Right now new 17* pumps can be tough to get your hands on. It is readily stated that early 99 and OBS trucks should upgrade to the 17* pump to help with high power chips.

When is it necessary for big oil you ask? When you have the money.
The 17* is a High Pressure Oil Pumps from the late model trucks (17 degree). You can use these on the 1994-Early 1999 models to increase oil delivery to the injectors. They are also a direct replacement for the late 1999 -2003 model years.

Nothing fancy, but with your mileage it would do nothing but help. There is a supplier in Oakland that I can point you to. They want $450 and they will take any core. My local Napa wants $425 and they will take any core as well. Both come with a one year warranty. Some vendors will only take year for year core so be careful.

I am sure others will chime in to elaborate where I am deficient or flawed. Always good info here.

You will notice great off idle torque with the 140 tune. When you get to about 22-2300 rpm you will notice it nose over and stop pulling. That is an indication you are out of pressure to handle the demand. At least that is what my truck does.

I would replace both pump and IPR at the same time. The work together.

Iam in the same boat with my truck it was built in 4/98. I have all the supporting mods and ready to order a DP chip. But now iam wondering what my truck will be like with a 140HP setting? Iam not up to par on what the best HPOP out there is and also do you have to replace the IPR at the same time of replacing the HPOP?

I had 100, 120, and 140 tunes on my truck, I could set the check engine light on the 100, my Terminator should be here early this week, I wont have to worry about that anymore!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Are you sure the check engine light was from the low oil pressure and not from the high boost that causes defueling of the engine? Most if us get the check engine light from high boost(over 24psi) with DP tunes. Unless you have an overboost device. Nothing in your signature to tell me otherwise. Big oil is awesome, but it will not change overboosting.

I have a Itp Overboost eliminator. I have under 60k miles, and my trucks a 02, I went with the Terminator because I know its a solid product, Im going to run 1 Ipr with Dp tunes. I like having a Lifetime warranty. I think the Bts pump setup is a very good design as well.

I respect a man that has done his homework. Let us know how the project goes.
