cold engine sat overnight outside temp 32 degrees

before start:
intake air temp input = 32 deg
oil temp input = 30 deg
coolant input = 509.20 deg

after 1 min running coolant dropped to 11 deg

after 5 min idling:
intake air temp = 46
oil temp = 100
coolant temp 317

after 10 min idling:
intake air temp = 54
oil temp = 141
coolant temp = 491

injector control pressure:
600lbs @ 85 deg oil @ 700rpm
483lbs @ 145 deg oil @ 680 rpm
800lbs @ 145 deg oil @ 2000 rpm no load

rotational velocity:
#2 = .4
#3 = 2.5
#8 = 5
all others are 0.0

what does any of this mean?
what is spec on injector control pressure?

Your ICP readings are about right.

Ignore the coolant temp readings, the coolant temp sensor doesn't even connect to the PCM, and AE is reporting bogus numbers when it reports coolant temps.

Your #8 rotational velocity seems high, but I don't know what the cutoff is supposed to be. Have you tried a Cylinder Contribution Test? If it pops up with #8, you'll know that 5% is too high.

Ford Service CD

P0284 - Cylinder 8 Contribution/Balance Fault
Possible causes:
-- broken compression rings
-- inoperative injector assembly
-- leaking or bent valves
-- bent push rod
-- broken rocker arm bolts
-- bent connecting rod

Notice that only one of the possible causes is the injector.

Do you have the new gray CPS or had it installed on the recall?

It is known to create bad R.V. and CCT numbers, especially on #8 cyl.
I WOULD BET YOU IT IS A GREY SENSOR

switched # 2 & #8 injectors, with all the same results

I would bet that too. #3 isn't as bad as #8, but it's still a little higher than the rest. Those two cylinders were the ones that changed on mine with the gray vs. black CPS.

Here's some info on the comparison between the two. LINK

The CPS is Camshaft Position Sensor. It's on the front of the engine at about the 10:00 position of the crank pulley when looking from the front of the truck. It's easiest to get to from underneath.

I got one from IH in December. They still had them then.

They sent me a Delphi HTS100. I think I'm going to send it back. Here is the description:
Cam Position Sensor fits Navistar T444E 1994, 1995, 1996 7.3L Engine up to 375548 engine s/n OEM # 1821720C99
The pre-mid-96 cps is essentially the same as the 96+ up black cps with the exception of the plating on the contacts. The recommendation is not to mix the later gold plated contacts with the older tin? plated because of dissimilar metal corrosion. But you could swap the connector to one from an early truck and solve that problem.

went to IH today and bought a cps 1821720C99, to me motor shakes at idle like its misses little BUT it passed the contribution test with the IH cps and the rotation #'s are better

There are 3 different CPS units for the 7.3's, check the serial number stamped next to the oil cooler (filter), then get one from an IH dealer. Could be this one (1825899C93) if it's a 99.5 .
