EOT, AIT, ICP and on. I think I have a bad EOT. If I am going to have to pay to have it scanned, I would rather purchase a tool and have it.

What parts do I need to purchase in addition to just the scan tool if I want the Auto Ingenuity scan tool to make it work for my 97' diesel?? and the total cost?

I bought mine from Dennis at ITP, he is great to deal with and his price was the best that I found. I have the usb total Ford bundle. You also get free upgrades for 1 year I believe. I use it on my truck my wifes explorer my brother in laws F 150 my brothers Expedition and all of our Fords at work, now ya got me thinking I need to start charging for the use of this tool . It reads everything on our trucks engines and tranny's except for the IAT go figure. You should see what it reads on my wifes Explorer, way to much for me to understand and it does read live data, I think you can pull up 9 different items of your choice and watch them on one screen. It is a great tool and $340.00 is cheap IMO we have a program at work that does basically the same thing for Mercury engines and that was $4,600.00 with a laptop.

All the add's praise it. Just looking for some REAL people input.
Thanks

Dave, It works great I cant believe in years past the remote places I have been and only had my Super Chips 1705 tuner to read codes, I never had to use it. Now, if I'm going on a trip I have the laptop and the Auto E its just nice to be able to troubleshoot with out guessing and not have to rely on a shop. I have driven around for days with it hooked up, just recording readings trying to figure out why my truck runs a little better when its damp out or raining a little. I'm surprised no one else has chimed in.

Thanks Frank. Dennis sould give you a commision. I am going to get 1 just for peace of mind, so I can see what is going on and not some wanna be tell me I need to spend all kinds of cash.
Thanks for your input. I guess we will be the ONLY 2 people that use it.

A little bit of my experience with my 97 .....

It was fun, just could not justify the cost..
But it is no fun to take truck somewhere everytime there is a problem and get it scanned or when you have a no start and need to be towed. That alone justifies the cost. I use my AE on many cars and trucks that have a problem and even though I am still learning the program so are the people who you whould have it towed too. My avatar truck (black f250) I purchased from a FORD lot as a non runner cause they could not get it runnin

Which one did you get that cost $500.00 ? I will be leaving within the hour for Florida and then up to Nashville and it sure will be nice to have my A\E in the truck, just incase:thumbsup:

I had a Dell X50V PDA, bought the AE stuff for the truck ( about $250 ), then the cable for the interface. Found out that the Powerstroke is not ODBII compliant and needed the Enhanced interface ( $150 ), and even then it did not get me everything I wanted.

In the AE website and thier reply to me

"What OBDII/EOBD vehicles does the ScanTool or SpeedTracer not work with?

We will connect to the Duramax, Cummins, and Powerstroke diesel vehicles; however, because their gross vehicle weight exceeds the maximum requirements of the OBDII standard, they are not OBDII compliant and a very limited amount of data and sensors will report with generic OBDII. However, with the enhanced Ford, GM, or Chrysler interfaces, the proprietary powertrain and other systems sensors are available."

BBL... gotta run.

You need to look here at all it can do on our trucks
All Available Documents

You just need to set to NON OBDII for Powerstroke

AutoEnginuity Software Configuration
When you first launch the AutoEnginuity software there are some settings that need to be modified. The settings below are what we recommend to get the best results when connecting to Powerstroke Diesel vehicles. Connection to other vehicles may require changes to these settings. All of these settings are located in "Communications Configuration" on the "Vehicle" menu.

  • Computer Interface:
    • Select "Auto Detect Serial Port" ONLY if you are using a Serial version of the AutoEnginuity tool
    • Select "USB or Manually Set Serial Port" for USB versions of the AutoEnginuity tool
    • I prefer to turn off "Automatically Connect on Launch" so I can start the software without it trying to connect
  • Vehicle Interface:
    • "Vehicle Interface Type" should be "Auto Detect" to allow connection to 7.3L and 6.0L trucks without changing settings
    • "Initialization Type" should be "Ford Powerstroke" (versions 4.2 or earlier) or "Non-OBDII" (versions 4.3 and higher)
    • NOTE: This setting will need to be changed to "OBDII Compliant" if connecting to a non-Powerstroke vehicle
[*]"Use Fastmode CAN" and "Use Heartbeat" should not be selected

[*]The above settings are automatically saved. You won't need to adjust these unless you change them to connect to a different vehicle.

..... ( I think I did play with those settings ), but you see..... I was $400 bucks into it with just the interface and software, and for what? I glorified underused computer in the hands of an average inexperienced person ( me ), it was just overkill for me just for only a couple options that were actually useful to me.
As far as code reading and clearing errors, somewhere I saw some handheld units for about $100 if I desired that. ( or friends in the business ).

Ohhhh don't get me wrong, it was neat! I loved watching the numbers spew out and do some of the interactive tests. But in my money tight world, I ended up turning it in and getting an upgraded exhaust ( I still have yet come across a code yet ).... just the chances I take.

It just wasn't for me. In the same token, I wish I knew this stuff before trying it out. Trial and error, loose a few $$$ doing it.

Just ordered a TW chip, and I eagerly wait for that ( thanks to all the reviews I have read on here ). Now I need to save for the gauges.

Just a mad money eating world.... just have to put it where it benefits me the most.

( Don't let my reviews/experiences deter anyone from trying a great toy out. These are only my personal experiences and thoughts )

Its a tool not a toy  Thats how I justified it. I made it to Crystal River today and was glad the A\E was onboard. I was thinking on the ride down at 2am in South Carolina if I had a problem I would have a good shot at fixing it on my own (with the help of TDS members ) But I made it and she didnt miss a beat.

I guess that is why it didn't work out for me.... it was a toy. But I like toys, and toys are fun. It was fun.
