So I'm working on quite a few deisel vehicles. My job is to get rid of them. If I can get them working on the cheap then I need to do that. Most of these have sat unranked for up to 5 years. The fuel Is old and the parts are rusty.
1. I need an auxiliary fuel tank. Something small I can use on any engine in place of the vehicles tank. Can I just use a fuel can with a hose before the lift pump or will this be more complicated?
2. How long can deisel sit in a tank unused be for it goes bad? These are all in southern tennessee.

You could use a small can for a fuel supply but you have the fuel return line going back to the original fuel tank in the vehicle unless you re-route it. I don't know how long it takes for fuel to go bad but I certainly wouldn't use 5 year old diesel.

I think its 3 months for diesel. That said, it absorbs a lot of water just sitting. Keep in mind the return line is at full pressure when it gets to the tank. So strap her down to your gas can well. Lol.
