i going to be adding a lift soon i was think about a 550 axle swap
so how much wider are they
is it possible to be done
and is the different grearing avaible for that axle
thanks for any help i have a line on the axles. My reasoning is for the brakes i will pay about the same for the axles as i would for a big brake kit( guy owes me a favor). I know ill need a bed for duals not a prob i think it will look cool if its possiable to be done.

The Dana's in a 550 are narrower than whats in your 250 IIRC. There is also a difference in frame width, and may cause issues with tire/wheel clearance. You would also have to cut and move the spring mounts on the axle to fit into your truck, and probably modify the driveshaft.

if the whole axle is shorter then why the wider fenders on the 4 and 550s. I know the spring mounts have to be moved out.

that was my frist thought and probly where ill end up but its a price thing number 1 and a coolness thing number 2 but none the less your probably right thank jarek
