Could bad IDM cause one injector not to fire? I had a injector that would not fire until you cleaned it out on the hiway and now it does not fire at all.

Anything is possible with electrical stuff it seems. Before you dump the money on a new injector, why don't you pull it and swap it with the one next to it to see if the problem stays in the same cylinder or follows the injector.

While the swap is good advice I would have a Buzz test and cyl contibution test done on it before ripping into it.Could prevent a bunch of unessesary work. could be a harness issue under the valvecover,Or that particular injector is done in.IDM issues most commonly will kill one bank of injectors when they fail.

Don't take this as an argument, but I'm assuming he already knows which injector is causing problems. If it's an IDM or wiring issue, that injector will fail the buzz test, right? The suspect injector should also throw a code during the CCT, which we would expect. I would expect him to get a contribution fault and possibly no/weak buzz on the tests, wouldn't you? Am I missing something here?

Of course if he pulls the valve cover and finds a loose connector, plug it back in and re-test.

Yes and No on the Buzz test.I have had solenoids fail only after they were Hot and not throw a code they just didnt have enough power to pull the armeture up because of internal damage. this is where you may think you have a IDM issue until you are able to catch the solenoid failing on the test or ohm it out and determine its bad.And yes you should get a ck eng light if its electrical in nature but intermitten issues sometimes wont trigger it.You may also here a "Weak" one in the Buzz test and think its a electrical issue only to find the Armeture has come loose on the poppet valve.I am thinking the opposite of you on the diagnostic side and assumeing he doesnt know which cyl is at fault.

Then I would agree, identifying which injector has to come first. Now for a small hijack, what kind of reading did you see from a solenoid that failed after getting hot? The only solenoid failure I've seen ohmed out about 0.6 lower than the other injectors, but took down the whole bank. It was dead hot or cold. Does the hot failure match those symptoms?

Well I spoke too soon, it's back. Could a bad ICP cause this. There is oil in the connector so I'm guessing there is an issue with it.
