I am pretty sure my water pump is going bad. I am confused to why it isn't leaking. It started out as an unusual nose at idle that I was questioning as normal or not(my first diesel). When I grab my fan blades I can wiggle the whole fan and pully, but no leak?
Thanks in advance for any help

Welcome to TheDieselStop /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yes, the bearing can go bad and the seal can still hold. If it has just about any wobble at all, it's pretty much gone. If you run it very much longer, the seal WILL start leaking.

Also, the seal can go out and the bearing still be OK (at least till you lose all the coolant).

Looks like you have some work to do.

Good luck with it.

What ever you do, use the correct torque specs for the water pump bolts. Some Ford shop manuals have the wrong specs and have caused many of us to break bolts because of it. The correct torque value is 18 ft/lbs. Not the 35 to 46 ft/lbs printed in some manuals. Other than that it's really not that hard of a job.

Good luck,
Randy
