My buddy hsa a 2000 PSD and said that his battery light came on and under 2000 RPM's it stays solid color and above 2000 RPM's it blinks. He was wanting to know if this could be the alternator going bad? Or do you all think he just needs to change the battery's? Thanks in advance!

prolly 6 of one, half dozen of the other.

mine did it, and it turned out to be alternator. i'd take the truck to NAPA, AutoZone, etc. ... they can check it for you.

9 times out of 10, the battery light is actually indicating a bad alternator.

However, it could have been a nad battery, that has taken OUT the alternator.

The older fords you could change out just one bad part of the charging system, but the newer fords are all contained inside the alternator. So even if its just the voltage regulator that took a crap, you have to replace the entire Alt.

Better get the bats checked while your at it and make sure they didnt go bad and smoke the alternator.

You say he has a 2000, so if he has STOCK original batteries, they are over 5 years old and should be replaced anywayz!

I've got a 99.5 PSD that I just got a couple weeks ago. The battery light started going on at low RPMs, just as NABBM34 said about his buddy's truck.

The batteries in there right now are the Motorcraft ones, is there anyway to tell if they're still the stock batteries or not?

I plan to get the alternator checked regardless....

somewhere on the battery should be little dimples that have a MONTH and a YEAR. what ever month and year are scraped off, or pushed in should be the date of the batteries.

Otherwise, if they just look old, have them tested at the same time as the alternator. Most Autoparts stores can do that for free.

Always replace our batteries in matched pairs. If you leave an old one in, it will drag your new battery down.
