As you may know, I've been whining about my old girl chewing thru belts for no apparent reason.I replaced the tensioner and so far so good. Close inspection of the old tensioner showed slight wear in the spring area causing the pulley to ride one side of the belt a little more than it should, I think that caused it to walk backward on the crank pulley and eat one rib off. The new one is on and a five minute 3000 rpm blast in the driveway and the belt is right where its supposed to be, I also noticed the new tensioner bouncing around with the belt running thru the pulleys, something the old tensioner didnt do. It just stayed in one place, not moving much at all. I'll keep you all up to date, we'll see if this was the cure, at least it may help those of you with a similar problem.

I've done some mileage, the belt is staying put, things are looking up. I think the tensioner was pulling the belt to one side ever so slightly, putting pressure on one side of the belt making it walk backward on the crank pulley, stripping one rib off. It seems changing the tensioner has cured the problem, I'll post if it goes bad, but so far so good.

My problem is the belt rids too far back on the wp pully. New wp and it is still the same. It wears the rib to the point that it looses the one rib. After a while the belt has moved one rib and it doing the same thing to the next rib. I have three spares and wait until the completely shred before I buy another.

Mark; I had the same problem with my brother-in-laws truck, so I pulled the waterpump off and used a press to push the mounting flange for the pulley back. I then put the pump back on and installed the belt, then I used two longer bolts in the pulley mount holes and pulled the pulley out a hair to align it, put the original bolts back in and its been good for the last six months.
