When I bought my 05’ F250 a few year ago, the guy had put a 4” turbo-back straight pipe exhaust on it. It’s a little noisy if you really get on the gas hard, but when you are just cruising around town or down the highway, except for the nice whistle sound…..it’s actually pretty quiet.

But…when I’m towing my camper with my family in the truck, it can get really loud when I’m getting on the gas hard pulling up hills, and stuff that actually requires some power. Anything over 2,500rpms just gets stupid loud….it’s annoying as hell on long 10+ hour road trips.


Is there a muffler I can put in the system that would kill a little bit of that wide open throttle volume, but not get rid of the whistle, or kill the exhaust flow?


If it’s on a 10 now, I would like to dial it back down to a 7…..

a freeflow muffler would probably give you what you are looking for.
MBRP has a good muffler

and there is another that i have seen people use but can't recall the name. it's aero something I believe

Just ordered one of the 4" x 30" FTE spiral resonators. I'll have to take a before and after video this weekend when I put it on the truck.

It’s been recommended a lot on TDS and what I put on mine: You can find a lot of previous old posts on this using search word: “Walker BTM”

+1 on the BTM (Big Truck Muffler).
NAPA also sells this under their label for just a bit more.
It cleans up the sound of the exhaust and actually lets me hear my turbo spool better.

I have a 3.5”.

FTE claims that their spiral resonator will not create higher EGT.

If you prefer the BTM, it is available on Amazon for slightly less ($109.75 for FTE spiral resonator, $91.78 for BTM on amazon).

Thats very kind that you do all the legwork on pricing and vendors.

Interesting about it not increasing EGT.

Well, I installed the new 4" x 30" FTE resonator. It did exactly what I wanted it to do....I couldn't be more happier with it. It got rid of that obnoxious "bark" when I was really hard on the gas. I can still hear the exhaust, it's just smoother now....quieter, and not so annoying. At idle, I can still here the turbo whistling....but I don't have as much as that annoying "hairdryer" type sound. It just took everything down at notch. The microphone on my camera is pretty crummy, it doesn't sound like it did much of anything in the videos....but in person, it's night and day.

I can't wait to tow something heavy.....I'm looking forward to being able to get on the throttle hard, without so much annoying volume coming out of the exhaust.

I'm working on editing the videos I took and putting them together....I just might not have time to do it tonight, it's going to take a little bit of time.

Just a little update......


Got to tow the boat (6,000lbs) this weekend. Man, it's so nice being able to carry on a conversation while pulling up a long hill when you are hard on the throttle No more....BRRRAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! from the 4" straight pipe. Reply


I can still hear the turbo whistling pretty good with the windows down, but when you get on the throttle........it's sooooo much better. It's louder than a stock truck, but just not annoying as hell anymore. I wish I would have done that as soon as I bought the truck a few years ago!

Any chance you watch your EGT before and after...just out of curiosity.

Unfortunately I don't have an EGT gauge on my truck yet. I do know that towing this is not so annoying anymore.......it still has the great whistle, but all of the wide open throttle volume has really been toned down.
