I was having a problem with the truck starting rough. It would start then shut down on its own and start back up. I had the grey in and replaced it with the blue one . I haven't had the die and start back up issue since, but it doesn't have a smooth idle. Any ideas?
Thank you

This has been a topic thoroughly discussed and researched.

If you have a chance, do a search but I recommend having a few cold ones at the ready and a few hours to sit.

Thank you for the reply. I know all about it. I ordered the International black one tonight.
Just thought someone might know if there was a better one out there.

The black. From pure diesel. Running the blue now and the grey is in the work bench.

Ah...OK.
So its actually the IH Dark Blue one.
Not the black one.

I finally obtained an original Black one today in original Ford packaging dated 12/02/05 and I will be replacing my Ford gray one in the morning.
The gray one has been working great so I can't even imagine how the black one will be better.

The original black had an issue with the head size. It has a plastic cover covering the magnet. The plastic was too big and it was sometimes hard to remove and would get damaged taking it out. The sensor you bought is a new sensor designed to the same spec as the original, except they updated the plastic piece to the new smaller size. The magnet is the same.

No, it is supposed to be identical, except for the plastic. It wont get jammed in there. Well, so, ya I guess that is better. So YES!

From what i can gather the original Black CPS that our trucks came out with are no longer available, except if you can sniff one out on Fleabay that has been either pulled out of a truck, or someone has sold their truck and purchased a new truck and they had a spare in the glove compartment and it's now for sale.

The original CPS (black) Ford part # F7TZ-12K073A had a problem with stalling, so Ford recalled it and replaced it with the Grey one , which in my option is useless.

The Elchins CPS (Nick Mod) is a good choice but you have to follow Nick's procedure in the fitment of it and make sure you've got plenty of ferrite-chokes and cans of beer on hand.
After it's fitted properly you'll be happy with the results.
Note: HID lights will have some interference with the Elchins CPS so fit ferrite chokes on the harness to your lights as well.

Other than that the Dark Blue Ford CPS is your best option for idling and fuel mileage.
Here's what the original one (black) looked like.

If I ever make it to within a 1000 miles of Googs place I will make sure I make it a point to go see him. :smile2: He must have one heck of a garage.
