I actually just got done making a set for mine. I will try to get some pics up on the computer. They seem to be a little bit over kill but they work good.

Was the length of these bars just a wild guess? I couldn't tell, but are they adjustable length for suspension pre-load? Looks like 1.5" tubing. I am glad they work well, and I think the extra-long length is needed on our trucks. What made you not try ladder bars?

Link fixed.

I had a user of this site fab them up, He also did the light bar on the front and the RSK. Not sure if the length was a guess or if he matched the arc of the suspension travel on purpose. There is a Heim joint on the axle end to adjust preload. I am not sure what ladder bars would do different than what I have. I just needed somthing to help control axle wrap.

I've already bought everything to make a set but haven't had the time, I was able to help Jesse make his set it seems to have made a difference. If you want I can try and scrounge up the part numbers and places we ordered ours from?

i came across another style of traction bars what do you guy's think of THESE. they would defianatly need to be built with stronger material but using the same design, i kinda like it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

That is a copy of John Calvert's design. I have seen it used and it worked on that specific truck. Bought a set and tried these on my CC and I get undesirable results. It seems to start to wrap the rear axel and the strength of my springs over powers the wrapping force and it cycles through this which equates bucking in the rear (hop). The bite is great but like I said the springs are too much. I think if I replaced the rear springs with soft custom springs and added air bags for towing then it should work like it was intended to. The torque from our trucks and the leaf spring rigidity is much more than the cars it was designed for. I called John Calvert and he was very helpful and sent me additional bars to try and also offered to buy them back if they don't work but I just might try the soft spring option because when they bite hold on.

I just bought some procomp bars. Very cheap for 220 bucks Ifigured it was not worth the time to build my own. I have had them on for 2 weeks now and they work great. I would suggest them to any body.

Wacker,
Just called 4 Wheel Parts to check on the ProComp's and the pricing I was told is:

Bars - $247.00
Mounting kit - $149.00
Installation - $200.00

I know you do the install yourself Jeremy but did you make your own mounting kit?

BTW - I bet the mounting brackets are color matched and flamed, Right? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

whaatever you do make them LONG, usually 6' for a full CC to match teh driveshaft angle. You don't need much to stop the axle wrap, so overkill is not rquired, but it looks cool

Why match the driveshaft angle? It has nothing to do with the suspension geometry.
As far as chassis setup and suspension geometry goes, and considering the type of bars most people use (straight bar with a single solid mounting point at each end) they should be the same length as the distance from the forward spring eye to the spring center bolt. This dimension will match the arc the rear suspension travels in and not cause any binding due to the axle trying to move in two different arcs. Unless of course some method of allowing the traction bar to move forward and back is used so the spring dimension still dictates the suspension arc. For the axle housing mount, the farther away from the axle shaft center line moving in a vertical plane, (not horizontal) the more leverage the traction bar has to control axle wrap. The "Cal-Trac" bars or "Calvert" bars are a very good design I have made and used them on quite a few cars and trucks but not any diesels yet.

They work fine in 4x4 but not too well in 2x. My tires keep spinning with these injectors that we're all using that don't have fuel or work worth a crap. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
