Couple weeks back, My 99 listed below had the check eng light come on and, thanks to everyones help, we found that it was the passenger side UVC harness. Took it to Dan Grubb Ford in Phoenix and they put the clip update kit on it. (both sides I hope) 14.00 and 5.2 hours labor at 90.00 plus an hour.
Now 5000 miles later and im in Dallas I have a new problem, it start in Van Horne, TX (little history on the truck) 194,000 miles all stock.)I am pulling my 44' gooseneck enclosed trailer. with with toys in it is right at 14,000 lbs plus the truck. When under heavy exceleration, engine is pulling fine, then it fells like it start to run out of fuel, if you stay in it, truck will slow to about 35 mph and sounds like shes running on half the cylinders.. If you get off the throttle and let engine idle, she seems to come back to normal operation. If not, just pull over and let it sit for 5 minutes and restart, runs rough for a short time and engine/injectors are noisey then calms down. Can go 3to400 miles without incident then all the sudden it starts, then 25 miles latter does it again. ?????? I am going to drive to Houston in the morning and catch a flight home tell Tuesday then fly back and deal with this. Until then, I gotta find a place to park truck and trailer until then. (also as asked in last post, Who are the good shops in Houston? Thanks again everyone.

How old is the oil & is it full?

Did it set a SES light?

Have you checked the fuel pressure?

When problem first occured,(Van Horne, TX.) I had 4500 miles on this change (all highway pulling trailer)So I Stopped at rest stop and replace fuel filter (currently had 6000 miles on it) Problem happened again 50-100 miles down the road.
I stopped in Pecos, TX at the Auto Zone and bought enough oil and another oil filter and a drain bucket and changed the oil in their lot (permission asked) refilled crankcase with 13 Quarts of Rotella 15w40 and added 1 quart of the Lucas syn. oil stabalizer ( I have always used this and their fuel treatment also) 30 min later back on the road and all seems well. I figured since the ford dealer in Phoenix changed the oil last and I watched them pump 15w40 bulk oil into the truck it must have just been a cheap brand and 4500 miles of heavy towing ( Phoenix to Vegas to Salt Lake City to Reno over Donner Pass and into Oakland,CA. then back across the 10 from LA to this point) I figured it just broke down the oil. But it has happened 3 more times since Abilene, TX.
Today I have drove from Dallas to Houston (Sitting in airport as we speak waiting to catch a flight home) 65-70MPH the whole way and not even a hickup??? I am at a loss. will be back to Houston on Tuesday to pick up and drive home (if she wants to get me there) or find a good shop in the Houston area thats may have some ideas.
SES light has never came on with this situation, Last time on was when the passenger side UVC harness came undone. (I would hope that the Ford dealer would have cleared those out)
I also noticed when this stumble happens fuel mileage hits the bottom. Truck has 29 gallon tank and only got 200 miles out of tank when stumble happens. Normally with this trailer and truck running good it gets about 320 with trailer which is a Pace enclosed 102"W x 44'L x 7'6" inside height (tripple 7000 lbs axles)
Not sure what else I can tell you??? feel free to ask and I will do my best to awnser. Thanks again.

It sounds like it could be Oil or fuel related , My first thought would be check the fuel pressure, then look at the IPR orings & maybe have the pressures in the oil lines checked for maybe a bad o ring on an injector. The fact that it comes & goes puzzles me. Unless it it somehow temp related.....Just a few thoughts....

You may have to get it on a scanner to get to the bottom of this, read some data streams. EOT, ICP....

Classic Fuel pump problem. 194k - it's time.

No service lights = fuel or oil. Oil problems recover quick fuel problems take a while. Do the fuel pump and make sure no air is coming in the fitting on the tank side of the pump.

Both my 99 and 2000 had the same situation around this same mileage.

Pumps and a little hose solved the problem on both

Diesel Innovations is in Houston, ask for David. They are a sponsor on this site. I would definitely get codes pulled.

Just curious, did the Dealer install new harness on both sides or just new clips????? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif I sincerely friggin hope that did NOT go through all that work, time effort and YOUR money to install $14 worth of damn clips and didn't bother to change the 2 $30(ea) harness. Takes an extra 15 minutes to change the harness once your there. BTW, if this was your first post about this deal, and you never had the valve covers pulled yet, my first guess would be those harnesses. Sorry for the rant here, as I am sure the dumbass tech OHM'd out the harness to make sure they were good, but geeze come on for an extra $50 you can have brand new and be SURE its all good /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Any idea if this happens with a full or empty tank? Sure sounds fuel related, or at least sensor related.
