DTC: P0284 contribution blanace fault cyl8, P0674 glow plug 4 failure.

I slowly been noticing my 6.0 has been starting to miss and surge, unfortunatly I let it get to a point to were its uncomfortable to drive. At WOT from take off it pours black smoke and during idle and low rpm it is missing and surging pretty heavy.
Recently: ficm and both new interstate batts 30k ago, new fuel pump 1000k ago, oil change is 1500 ago and every filter is motorcraft.
any advise is helpful,
Richard

Either do the glow plug tests or replace the glow plug controller and number 4 glow plug.
When I received an 0672 code, I tried replacing the number 2 glow plug and it didn't solve the problem. It was the controller.
It's not that much work to replace the controller. And number 4 glow plug is doable without too much effort. Whatever you do, be careful you don't break off the connector. If you do, you should still be able to remove it, but the wires will be hanging out in the breeze, close to the exhaust manifold, where they can run away the insulation, which would definitely kill the controller and create some sparks at the same time. If this happens, replace the cable as well, but now you will need to remove all 4 connectors on the driver side, which is a bit more of a challenge (but still doable).
