The truck doesn't need it, but if you rear end someone they might wish you had it lol. Basically keeps truck from overriding smaller vehicles in a rear end collision from what I understand.

Yes, the beam is found on SuperDuty pickups as well. (The Excursion was built on the SuperDuty frame.)

As for the poor image of the Excursion, it was the sucky V10 gas hog they put in it. The Excursions with the diesel engine did much better on fuel consumption. (Roughly two to one difference)

I wish Ford would wake up and offer a fuel management system on their PowerStroke engines like they do for some of their gas engines. When cruising down the road empty, you typically don't need all 400 horsepower to keep the rig rolling. :icon_rolleyes:
