boost concern

Your greatest boost will be with a load. Running empty doesn't put a lot of load on the engine. Hook up to a trailer or fill the bed with something and try again.

With 10,000 pounds on a trailer behind me up a good grade I'll see 21 psi. (stock). 10 to 17 or so. pulling a hill empty. I've talked to other obs powerstroke owners could only get 17 psi max boost (empty or loaded). But My motor seems to run really strong. Always has been a really good strong puller.

alright cool thank you guys. ill hook up and see what she does with a load behind her. oh ive also changed the MAP sensor and EBP valve and tube im pretty sure those are related to boost in some way. p[lease correct me if im wrong. my EBP readings are better now ionfact before i wasnt even getting any because the EGR tube was plugged. but my boost still didnt go up while empty. but like you guys said i hook up and pull a hill and see what happens. thanks again. one more question for you. have ypour heard about the BDP over boost kit if so what info do you have on it? i think i may install it and see if i gain some PSI. thanks again.

I've not seen an overboost kit for these obs trucks. Only for the new super dutys. I'd be careful messing with the boost psi tho. It can cause you to have some other serious issues. Have you considered checking your turbo seals? or possibly the intake (orange) boots that hold the Intake plenium to the intake manifold for leaks?

i have checked the intake boots to the plenium and found no leaks that i could tell. i have not checked the turbo seals though i dont know how i would do that. anything special i have to do or are you just talking about the clamps that hold it all together so to speak? if so i have checked those and all seems well. i did find an over boost kit for 97 obs though (BDPshop.com/BDP-overboost-kit.html) 49.99, they say this will work that is. im going to hook up to my camp trailer tomorrow and see what she does with a load. any other suggestions or tips will help. thank you.

That overboost kit is for guys running big injectors on the stock turbo. You can run into the high 20's up to over 30 lbs of boost with big injectors. The theory behind the kit is to drop the psi the map sensor sees to keep it from cutting the fuel back. Not real sure an OBS will derate anyway. If you fill your signature out we can get a better idea what your truck has. You can make an adapter to put compressed air to the truck to see if you have any leaks. Just use some pvc pipe/caps and an air chuck. Regulate down to 5-10 lbs or so and you can use soapy water to look for small plenum leaks. Could just be tired injectors or a worn compressor wheel.
