Well. I sold my 200k 7.3. Now I own a beautiful King Ranch 08. Now I joined this forum and found out I have a problem. I looked at my exhaust....no dpf or cat. What appears to be two egt sensors zip tied up to the frame. There is a tube welded to the dpf 5" delete tube that has a hose running to a pressure sensor. I drove the truck 12 hours home. Drove a hundred plus miles with no issues. Just a little fuelish smoke when stopping or letting off gas. Seems to run fine. No codes?!? What should I do? Someone suggested an H S high sulfur tune? Or calling River City Diesel in Peoria Ill. They might recommend a 50hp tune that would work with my situation. Don't want to make crazy power. Just need reliable. Please help. Thanks in advance.

from what I've read, you can't drive that far if it was put back to stock. it would go to limp mode. the tuner doesn't have to be on for it to have the program on the truck. I run hs mini maxx but better hurry as prices going up. without dpf can't run the street version, has to be the "old" style. I think they're about $1200 now. if you do have a tuned truck, which if you don't have a dpf I would geuss you do, better get gauges before hot rodding or towing because the egts heat up fast.

guess, not geuss. I hate bad grammar and spelling in a post

Thanks. I just got off the phone with Doug from Ford specialists in GA. He said the same thing. I got 15.4 MPG on a 12 hour trip going 65 to 75 MPH. It never freaked on me and never tried to regen. He said they must've left the tune in it. It doesn't seem like it has much more power than my 7.3 with 75hp tune and dual exhaust. Definitely won't blow black. Actually seems like less power.... It has an aftermatket intake as well. B&S??? Something like that. I have 35x12.50x20's. Speed was right on to my GPS.

I ran my 08 with the delete pipe approximately 9 miles til it went into a regen cycle....the exhaust shop said I didn't need the tuner, turns out I did as suspected. Yes your truck has a tune, unless your just REALLY lucky. lol

Get a programmer so you can ensure what tunes. You can also get a digial monitor that will plug into the OBD port and read the EGT's. There is a couple more on the motor that are still hooked up.

buy yourself an edge insight...read all the engine, tranny, intake air and coolant temps.
the truck has to be tuned with all that has been done to it....but if its a DPF-R tuner in there then i would consider sparton or h&s. unless you dyno it...guessing pwr compared to your old 7.3 is just a seat of the pants tease....you might be good just as you are....on second thought,it cant be a DPF-R...it has to stay plugged in.
how do you know you have 2 egt probes?

Yeah. It definitely has a programmer. I have a pix of the blue and black digital programmer in the truck ad before they removed it. I'm waiting for a call back from the guy who removed it. Is the Edge Insight a monitor that plugs into the obd? Are there any others you would recommend?

Even stock should feel a lot more powerfull than 7.3. At least mine does. Really notice when your rolling and step on it. You can tune them "down" to have minimum black smoke. I like my h&s mini maxx and would definitely recommend.

I am confused as to why the previous owner would remove the head unit, & leave the truck programmed. All H&S tuners are VIN locked to a specific truck once tuning is downloaded to that truck. He cannot take the tuner head unit & install it on another truck if he left your truck tuned. The only way to use the tuner on another truck would be to remove all the H&S tuning from your truck & return your truck to the OEM tuning. This would remove the truck specific VIN from the tuner so it could be used elsewhere. So either he has returned your truck to OEM stock so he can use the tuner on something else or sell it, not likely though with the amount you have driven it & it hasn't thrown any codes. If your truck still has an H&S tune downloaded then he should give you the head unit. It won't be much use to the previous owner.
Something doesn't make sense with your DPF delete also. With an H&S delete tune, all three exhaust temperature sensors & the back pressure sensor would be removed. Not sure why you still have the BP sensor connected to your delete pipe?

gotta love it - looked at the underside after he bought it.

First - call the place you bought it and tell them the truck isn't legal. If they don't give you the programmer you can report them.

If you ever want to do anything with the truck you will need the same tuner. Also your stock tune is in the tuner you didn't get.
