Hey you brake experts, I have a couple quick questions for you. My slide pins on my 2001 4x4 Excursion are rusted solid, so I need to purchase a new caliper 'carrier' (for lack of a better term).

1. Is there a model year that has a better carrier and slide pin design that I should upgrade to?
2. If so, what year/model will fit my X? (It is my understanding that the front brakes are the same on 250/350/X)
3. What is the spec for the slide pin bolt torque?
4. What is the spec for the carrier bolt torque?

Thanks! I am also going to upgrade to the powerslot/hawk setup, but first I need to get my calipers working correctly!

I'm no expert on the brakes, but I'll try to help /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif I had one of the slide pins freeze on my F350, and had to buy a new bracket, and slide pins. The bracket was $80 and I believe the pins were $20 or so. IIRC the torque spec on the bracket bolts is 160FT/Lbs. Our el-cheapo air gun wouldn't budge it, so I used a long pipe on a breaker bar to break it free. I'm 99% positive that is the proper TQ spec, but a search should get you the info if someone else doesn't reply.

I just did the cyro'd powerslot and Hawks superduty pads and couldn't be happier. Check with Fordmotortech, I think that is his name, or do a search as this was talked about before.
I would just buy two new calipers and get some of the xg-3 lube so you are sure the new ones are lubed enough. If I remember the right the Torque spec for the calipers is 160ft lbs and the slide pins was 42ft lbs. I have a 250 ft lb TW and I can tell you this it was totally hard to get 150 ft lbs on those bolts unless you have a lift, and my caliper slide pins were probably close to 100ft lbs from the factory.
May I also suggest getting two new brake lines for the front, just changing brake pads is enough to disturb these hoses and they will collapse on you. I just found ss ones wrapped in Kevlar for just a few $$ more than the rubber ones. I also flushed all the old brake fluid out, after 50K it was pretty nasty.
PM me with any ???
