I just did my rear brakes yesterday and replaced with discs. I did everything that I thought I was supposed to do, but my pedal is soft and won't return as quickly as it did before. The truck still stops, but I don't like the thought of a sinking pedal.

I may have not bled the brakes correctly. Can someone tell me how I am supposed to do this?

Have a helper pump brake pedal until pedal firms up as much as possible and HOLD, loosen bleed screw until fluid begins to flow, make sure helper keeps positive pressure on the pedal as it goes to the floor and DON'T LET UP UNTIL BLEED SCREW IS RETIGHTENED. Check/fill fluid resevor. Repeat until pedal firms up. Engine doesn't have to be running.

After running about a quart of fluid through it without seeing a bubble in the tubing, I am confident that the brakes are successfully bled. I just guess the pedal is a little bit different since I have replaced the wheel cylinders with the calipers. It sure stops MUCH better now. I guess that it turns out that I DID know how to bleed brakes.

There are a lot of issues when converting to discs.
A larger master cylinder will help with the pedal feel.
Have you ever changed out the brake booster with a zero loss unit? After converting to discs the soft, sinking pedal seems much more prevailant.

Hydroboost I think would be huge on converted trucks. I am going to do mine soon.

There are other things you can do, but the pedal will always feel different than it did.
I changed out a lot of things before I was happy with my pedal travel.

I was reading that earlier today. I have a 97 and my Master Cylinder already has 1-1/4 stamped on the side. I have really considered the Zero Loss booster. Can someone post the part number? How easy [or difficult] of a job is this to swap it out?
