Okay,...here we go again. I'm to new to TDS, and this is my first posting. I have read, numerous times, all the info on the inherent brake problems with the 7.3 SD. I have a 2002 F 250 SD, crew cab, 4 wheel drive. I have 64,000 miles on the truck, and I did buy it used last year. About 1 month ago, I noticed that at highway speeds, when I would tap the brake pedal, as when someone changes lanes without checking thier mirrors, I would get a " shudder " from the front end, possibly the right front wheel. I changed the pads all the way around, had the front rotors turned, replaced the slide pins, cleaned the bores, and greased them well. I still have the shudder I mentioned before at highway speeds, however now I have a " bounce" in the truck when braking, when I'm between 40-30 MPH. As I continue to slow, almost stopped, I have a surging sensation, Like I'm pumping the pedal almost. I do tow with the truck, I am within my limits, but I don't want to keep replacing things, hoping to come across the problem. I also have the occasional problem with my ESOF hubs not engaging, and I can't turn them manually between lock and auto. Please help!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I am having the same problem, check out my post "Brakes Surging". I have since check the ABS and it is not that. I will look deeper into the ball joints but I already checked them once.

Hi Reno, I am no PSD expert thats for sure /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/depressed.gif but after thinking about this post I seem to recall a few members in the past having trouble with the carrier bearing on the driveshaft which caused a sort of "clunking" noise or feeling. Does that shake out any past memories /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif It's been a while since I've posted here but it seems that at one time or another I read about bad carrier bearings on the driveshaft that caused similiar symptoms /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif Bad ball joints don't seem like they would cause the problems the poster complains about. I had my driveshaft replaced because of vibration in the center console and Ford told me it was a common complaint, but it did not get rid of my console vibration/shudder.. Just tossing out ideas thats all

The driveshaft would typically cause the problem whether braking or not. Also, it caues a vibration, this is clearly a front back jerking motion. I just finished installing new rotors to find I had wasted $256 and 3 hours to not solve the problem. The front end is tight as a tick so I cannot see what would be causing this. I am going to check the shocks, I am thinking that perhaps they are completely shot and allowing the springs to wind and unwind and create axle hop.

I was just thinking, what kind of tires do you have? If they are Good Year Wrangler AT/S then I think that is the source of our problem. I am going to experiment a bit to see if I can prove it.

Mine turned out to be the stinking rear brake rotors. I did not really consider them because it really felt like it was coming from the front and they looked fine through the wheel. $330 mistake. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif
