Well I did it. Had my trailor parked in the drive and makes for a tight squeeze to get the rig in the garage. Kissed the side of the garage with the passenger side mirror and heard that sadening "crunch" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. I know I saw it here somewhere and don't remember. Is there a replacement lens or do I have to buy the whole dadgum mirror? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif Thanks ya'll.

You have to buy a new mirror clamsheel with the light already installed.

There are 3 little locking tabs that you use a long skinny screwdriver to "release". You get at them with a flashlight, and manually move your BIG mirror around until you see the little plastic tabs. Once you release those tabs, the mirror back should pull away. Unplug the light and go get a new one.

Just check to make sure that no. is the pass side and not the driver side. I don't have my file here at work to conferm it. You might also want to try
Bob Utter Ford in TX. 1-800-259-3560
They were a little cheeper than from FL. and had great service. Can't remember their web site address. You can always do a search on yahoo and go down the list to see who is out of TX. Also you and check on the web site for contact info and see who was out of TX.
Just another place to shop abd compair prices.

I know its the correct number cuz I also broke my pass. side lens, and I got the number off the dealer invoice.
But like you said, I would double check when ordering.

Need some help.

Im new on this forum so i don't know how to start my own post. but any way, did you break the actual mirror or the signal light on the mirror. i just bought my truck, an 05 F-250, as i was driving back home the driver side signal light on the mirror fell off on the interstate so i didn't bother stopping to pick it up. i can't find just the signal light to buy, only the entire mirror. wondering if anybody could help. Justin.

Has anyone ever successfully removed the signal lens from the mirror back cover?

I have two unpainted covers that came from Ford with the signal lens already installed. To paint the covers, I need to remove the lenses... but the retention tabs appear to be one way. To attempt to squeeze the wings together would appear to break them.

Has anyone done this? Any tips or techniques? Apply heat?

Thanks Flywheel!

So you managed to squeeze the V tabs in, wriggle the lens out, and then reinsert the V tabs back into the cover, observe them snap back into a wide V to hold the lens, all without suffering any breakage?

Mere mortals like me can do this?

Yes - it doesn't take much to bend them out - But I used my electrical pliers so I could see well and IT DID NOT TAKE MUCH.

A lot of folks do this anyway when they switch over to the Recon signals - so yes, you can do it too.

It does not take much - so don't go and squeeze the tabs together - just enough to get them through the slot.

Thank you for the caution about not over squeezing those tabs.

You've mustered up my courage a bit. i've had these mirrors sitting brand new in the box for 10 years now, for fear of breaking those dam tabs. Unfortunately, I had the bright idea that I'd like to have painted mirror covers instead of black textured. The paintable mirror covers come from Ford in grey plastic primer, with the lenses already attached.

Hello? Shefenacker? If you know the covers will be painted, and you ship the covers separately (my mirror set came in four boxes from Ford), why not leave the lens uninstalled? Saves a production step, and saves the lens from being broken before the mirror is even installed. Anyway, one of these days soon I'll finally get those lenses off, the mirror backs painted, and clear some room off of a garage shelf!
