looking for a common sense with some knowledge behind it for an answer.

Currently mixing in Lucas Diesel Fuel treatment to ensure I have enough lubricity in the fuel, actually have been doubling up on amount to be safe. Lucas corporate tech service has told me that it is not neccesary but also not harmful to put in extra.

Anyone know what a good mix ration would be ? Anyone know of a less costly lubrication additive while still providing excellant performance ?

My mileage is running same as with # 2 diesel, and its currently .45 cents per gallon less so it is well worth the effort to do this as long as I do not cause harm.

As said before, mileage is fine, exhaust temps are the same, no added noise, just looking to reduce cost further if possible.

It may be possible to run kerosine with say 5% to 10% biodiesel.

The plus side of this is that you maybe able to make your own additive with out having to shell out all the money for PowerService or Lucas additives.

I've stated this before on this forum that adding only 1% biodiesel to ULSD will increase the lubricity of the fuel by 65%!

Since the injection pumps on our older Ford diesels are lubricated by fuel and not by oil, it becomes critical that they get the lubrication that is needed to eliminate premature pump failure.

been doing it for a long time w/ no ill effects, i run 100% and usually add a generous amount of powerservice or two stroke oil for lubrication.

Wondering how much you consider to be generous amount ?

I currently add 6 ounces per 10 gallon of fuel of Lucas, which is double recommended dose per their instructions. Though I'm sure instructions are based on Diesel fuel and not Kerosene.

If I cut back to 3 ounces of Lucas per every 10 gallons of fuel I can cut another 2 dollars per fill-up out of the cost. Fill-up considered 30 gallons. I buy the Lucas for 5.99 per quart plus tax.

I am also trying to stay away from using ATF as a lubricant due to the color and issues related to that. 2 Stroke oil has been looked at, though I personally do not find it to be of enough cost reduction to switch away from the Lucas. I also looked at Marvel Mystery Oil but found that the #1 ingredient in it is Kerosone, so why add that as a lubricant ? My current focus is reducing amount of Lucas without potential harm.

I would think vegetable oil would be great cost efeective solution for this. (new or used/well filtered/dewatered).

Lots of folks blend kerosine with their WVO (85/15 WVO/Kero), to thin their WVO. You might end up running more vegetable oil cause you will probably like it.

Hey Markey,

Are people running 85/15 WVO/Kero thru the stock system ?

Just wondered because I have looked at a couple different WVO systems witht the heated tank in the bed, along with heated lines and filters, such as Greasel brand system.

If it is possible to run thru stock system that would be something, though I would think filtration would be an issue.

I'd like to add that running Kero is still illegal. There may be sales tax on Kero, but you are still not paying road taxes.

Where did you get that info?

ATF type F used at 1qt/100gal is a great lubericant. I've been using it for years.

Increase that mix to 100times the above amount and you still don't get a color change. Just try a pint jar mixed at that rate and take a look for yourself.

There's also nothing wrong with adding 2% of 100%SVO either.

Taxed non dyed kerosene is $2.990 per gallon at a gas station near where I live in GA . Diesel is going for 2.359-2.509 per gallon . Would the kerosene cost significantly less at fuel oil dealer ( worth a 32 mi round trip drive ) ?

Re: To Blue PSD

Thanks for info, I understand that I probably would not have a color issue with a possible tank dip, just playing it safe.

Just finished a trip to Carolina's and back, around 1800 miles for the week.

Kero ran at 18.97 MPG from Toledo, Ohio to Wythville, Virginia

45 Min Cetane Diesel from Wythville back to Toledo ran at 18.44 MPG.

Both hand calculated filled up to the rim of the filler neck.

Did not expect Kero to outperform, only advantage Kero had was the further I got into the mountains the tank level decreased.

Vice-versa, after filling with diesel in Wythville, tank was full thru the rest of Virginia and thru West Virginia and southern Ohio.

Both were 90 degree days and both runs had same average speed's, most mountain driving in the 75-80 range.

That is only correct if running dyed kero. There is un-dyed kero that has road taxes added and legal for road use.

I have been running Jet A exclusively for 3 weeks now and Jet A is the same as kerosine. I havent added any fuel treatment though. Veggie oil seems to be the better option. You can buy a 1.25 gallon jug of Wesson at the grocery store for the same price you pay for your little amount of fuel treatment. Veggie oil has better lubricity than those other petrol products so if you want to be on the safe side, adding 1.25gallons of brand new veggie oil to your full tank of fuel would be the way to go. The only thing that sucks is that you dont get the cool fried food smell when running it. Just an observation but, jet fuel seems to ping more than diesel. Anyone have similar experience or an explanation?

What are you paying for your JetA compared to diesel? Is it dyed? I have two airports near me and I'm sure I can get it.

Thanks
Jared
