2008 F350 King Ranch 6.4 Diesel, ERG/DPF delete. Runs so much better after delete, any thoughts on installing an oil bypass system? I use Amsoil 15-40 and change every 5000 now, but still have very black sooty oil, better than before but still a concern. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I have an Amsoil bypass filter on my 6.0L, along with a CCV mod and have to say the oil stays quite clean. Others may think I'm nuts, but I change my oil once a year, in the fall, when I park the truck for the winter...this year, I put 12k miles on the truck, which is a little more than usual. Been doing this for 5 years now, since I upgraded the motor.

I have ran Amsoil with bypass for over 25,000 miles several times. If you are going to change your oil every 5,000 miles I would not use a bypass. Detergent oil will turn black as it keeps crud in suspension, that is how it is doing its job. It won't hurt to run a bypass but I don't think it will save money in the long run unless you extend the change interval.

I ran the Amsoil bypass on my 7.3 diesel (before my current '09) with good results, as well as doing an oil analysis at 10K. There was never a time the analysis didn't say to keep on going without an oil change. I was running an Amsoil synthetic as well. I'd change the filter at 10K, but continue with the same oil, often changing between 15k-20k with no issues. Much depends on keeping your truck for the long term too...as I had my old '95 turbo/diesel for 17 years, and a good chance I won't be doing that with my current truck, so I just go with an 'extended' drain period, and use a full synthetic which seems to work well. I currently change oil every 7-10k now (that's kilometres, not miles) which works for me.
