2) What are differnt about CA trucks?

What year? The 97 in your sig? Or some other truck you are considering that isn't in your sig. Model year will make a difference as to equipment.

For the 1997 model year, the CA trucks will have split shot injectors (Suffix code AD), a glow plug left bank / right bank metal bar shunt off of the power stud on the relay, and a calibration in the PCM for California, that includes diagnostics for the left and right bank of glow plugs, and has a different look up tables, timing, and strategy to operate split shot injectors.

Hello,
It is for the 97 F350 in my sig. How would I do a Vin lookup to see find out? I have read somewhere that the Cali trucks can produce more power with an aftermarket chip / programmer because of the injectors.

The Engine Tag does say that that truck passes California Emissions requirements for the 97 model year. Is this enough of a "clue" that it is has the larger injectors, different programming ect?

Thanks,

Dylan

Using a vin decoder. Lmc has one. Probably even the ford website.

Look at the glow plug relay on top of the motor. Does it have a metal shunt bridging over the power output post that feeds the left and right banks of glow plugs separately?
