Thinking about getting one of the "big rig" antennas that mounts on the mirror. What I am most concerned with is how to hook it up to the factory radio. I don't want to have to take the whole dash apart. Can anyone tell me where the factory antenna plugs in?

Thanks for the info. I guess the other concern is will the plug from the new antenna plug into the radio without some kind of adapter? Thinking about getting a Tram antenna.

Why not just acquire a new factory antenna and cable and place it on the front of the dash... or out onto the cowl... leaving the antenna in place. Just disconnect one and connect the other. Easy to restore factory when you sell or trade the truck in for a new one.

This is what I did, Just bought a new cable and Ant and mounted it on the Cowl, the ant unplugs under the dash above the brake pedal. Took me about a 1/2 hour to do the mod, the hardest part was drilling a hole in my new truck for the ant.

We will be getting a truck camper soon and have been following this thread. What is a cowl?

cowl is the area between the hood and windshield.......the black plastic covers it with the vents and where wipers are located.

Still trying to get a grasp on this.

If the camper blocks the rooftop antennae, isn't the camper still blocking the new location on the cowl?

Just sincerely trying to understand all this since I will be in the same boat (hopefully) soon.

Is this about the regular radio antennae, or a satellite radio antennae?

OK, now I am confused. larrgh says antenna plugs into ACM in center of dash requiring what looks like some major dash disassembly. Bowhunter 57 says it plugs in under dash by steering wheel. I really don't want to have to take apart the dash. The cowl method also sounds like reception might still be blocked by camper.

Hope this helps,
The mustard colored antenna connection on the late model Ford Super Duty is located on the drivers side kick panel just above the emergency brake bracket. Here are some pictures I got from another web site.

I had a new antenna installed on the left front cowl and it works great.
I had Ford do the install, as they had to order a new cable and antenna and take the dash apart. Since I have the Nav system, the install is a little different than those without the Nav.
If I remember right the cost was about $300.
Since I have a crew cab, the camper over head is not that much. If have a super or regular cab, the overhang would be greater and the antenna would probably have to move farther forward.

Went to Ford dealer to try to get this done. They ordered factory antenna and tried to move to cowl. They told me factory cable is 3.5' to short to install on cowl. Just an FYI, post from Bowhunter does not apply to 2015. Antenna connection is behind the radio.

I figure that it is cheaper to buy another 100 CDs.

Sirus Antenna

I have a dash mounted XM receiver on my 2012 F350 Supercab with 950 Eagle Cap truck camper. In order for the XM to work most of the time I had to place the magnet mount XM antenna on the front edge of the hood. Further back toward the cowl the XM reception is pretty spotty. I use the dash mounted XM so I can take it into the truck camper and use it through the camper radio as well. We love XM/Sirius radio.
