I have a 7.3l and the only mods done are afe stage 1 intake straight piped exhaust and gauges. The truck has 127,000 if I get a ts 6 position chip with the 140 hp and a sonnax kit will my tranny hold or will it take a crap on me. I just don't want to spend my money on the mods and blow the tranny and then not be able to afford a new tranny from bts. Thanks guys please voice your opinions

Truthfully, no one can say if YOUR trans will last.

It may or may not hold up.
Depends on you. How heavy is your right foot?
Do you watch the trans temps and keep it cool?


If you wanna play.... well, you get the idea.

Just go easy on the trans. Watch the temps and it should last a long time.

Flip a coin. It may crap the bed the next day, then again, it may go another 100,000 miles. No one will be able to tell you for sure. To be safe I would stay around 75-100hp.

Like everybody said, it is hard to tell if the trans will blow. A 140hp chip is a lot, 100hp or less is a little safer. If you do a lot of towing your chances of failure will increase. Every since I installed my programmer, I have been prepared to replace the trans. 30k and two years later it is still going strong.

I would add a couple more mods to try to extend the life of the tranny you have.
1. Tru cool Max transmission cooler.
2. External ATF filter. Spin on type or Magnafine.
3. Synthetic AT Fluid such as Mobil 1, Amsoil others.
