I replaced the fuel pump on my '97 Powerstroke. I found the plunger so disregard the post before this one. I didn't know how to cancel it.

I am still leaking...looks like more than before. I can't see from where it's leaking. But it is really coming out from under the truck. Looks like it' s coming out from where the tranny is bolted up. I couldn't see from any other place. I didn't see any leaks when I put my flashlight in there where the pump is. Just a whole lot of diesel fuel. Can the canister leak? a couple of years ago I had to have my canister replaced. That was a nightmare, I could actually see the fuel gauge dropping as I was going home as fast as I could. I had to stop and refuel...I was only about 10 miles from home. Where would I look to see if the canister is leaking...from the bottom?

What is that little metal thing in the bottom of the canister? I noticed when I was wiping up the crud from in there it had come dislodged from it's resting place. It almost looks like it was soldered down, but it was moving when I was wiping it out. Could that be the problem?

That is the fuel heater so you should unplug the fuel heater on the drivers side of the canister if it is still connected. It is the spade connector.

As far as the leak, did you replace the metal washers on the banjo bolt?
If not they will leak. Could aslo be any of those hoses if you used them over
Also look at any sensors for leaking on the canister

Yes they can leak they are aluminum and the crud and water on the bottom can eat a hole through them. Pull it completely off truck clean and degrease it when u locate the leak wire bruch it till clean and shiny the repair it with JB WELD used according to directions its a 2 part epoxy will withstand heat and diesel. Several guys on Ford Enthusiast forum have been running for several years with repaired fuel cannister. Hope this helps.

I repaired mine with JB weld and no problems, I also took out the fuel heater and its easy to clean the bottom of the canister, but remember that the stand pipe is LEFT HANDED THREAD (7/8" craw foot)
