Anybody hear of a centerforce clutch? The guy who might be doing my clutchwork is attempting to talk me into it. I did a search here and found nothing on it...has to mean something. If it isn't reputable I'll be going with the Luk as planned. I called Ford and they told me the 2002 Powerstroke already has to SMF...so where's the best deal for a top notch Luk clutch kit and a kevalar pilot bushing. I'll take some education on the kevlar pilot bushing if someone is bored also. Thanks in advance as always!

CenterForce is a very good clutch for the street/strip crowd. I've never checked to see if they made a clutch for our trucks. Go with the Lux. Everybody thats done their clutch has either did the kevlar bushing or wrote in to say they'd wished they had /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

haven't heard much abt the Centerforce, but the Luk and Southbend get recommended alot. used a Luk standard in mine and it does great! you WILL get a new flywheel from Luk if you use their kit. won't work with a stock flywheel even if its solid. many places to order but i went thru Carolina Clutch (close to home) for mine...a little over $500.(GET THE KEVLAR BUSHING)
just my 2cents

Thanks, I didn't have a lot of expectation regarding centerforce and wasn't that attached to the idea. Luk Standard it is and a seperate kevalr bushing also. Tempting to just go to the Luk cerametallic though...only a few more bucks right?

not much more as far as money, but i have heard that they somewhat on the "grabbie"
side..... if you got lots of power that may be the way to go. but with my mods the standard works great. i often tow a 13,000lb 5er and
doing that is what informed me of my stock clutch slippage. put the Luk in and it was gone. either way you go you won't be sorry!!!

I used the centerforce in my older trucks and will not run anything else in them. As for the newer trucks I have not seen much about them. I think you will be good to go with either one. If you have been going thru the standard clutchs then I would say give the centerforce a shot.

No offense but if you drive easy you can run a stock clutch until you wonder if it will ever give up. I don't drive easy I just drive however I need to do what I want. Then if the clutch goes just get a better setup for the way it gets used. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

Hi Kev,

From what I've been reading, Ford in late 2001 on, changed clutch suppliers. I read that Luk was that new supplier but only one thread on the subject so I don't know how true that is.

When I was looking earlier for pre-buying a clutch, both Southbend and RockFord both offered "printed" spec's of over 1000ft/lbs where I couldn't find the Luk mfg website spec's, only reported spec's from dealers selling Luk.

This was two years ago so things may have changed. I like the looks of the Southbend and was waiting for some "time" tested results.

I only have 22k on my factory clutch so I'll wait to see how the Southbend clutch does. Even tho I'm running a stock truck, no mods, I'm wanting a clutch spec thats rated 1000ft/lbs plus.

Thanks for all the quick help, I didn't get a chance to research the southbend clutch like T_bone suggested because the parts had to be ordered 10 minutes ago. I did end up going with a Luk so I hope things work out for me there. I had a 97' with an E40D in it and I would rather not repeat any form of transmission trouble with this truck like I had with that one.

I am working on ordering the kevlar bushing from dial-a-clutch since the Luk kit we bought didn't have the bushing with it...or at least I don't think it does. Just waiting on the mail now.

Thanks again for all the speedy help!!! It saved precious time on research!!!

Well, the kevlar pilot bushing was a no-go because they found my input shaft extremely worn. They had to replace it with a sleeve instead of spending the big $$$ to rebuild the tranny. I was out of town and never thought to call Ford to see if they would have covered that on the 100k powertrain warranty. Anybody know for sure?
I hope this sleeve fix works for a good while...from what I gather the kevlar pilot bushing was supposed to help restrict vibrating forces from motor to engine...instead I had to go with a roller bearing type. Thanks gents.
