I have a 1988 Ford EL Dorado Econoline 350 Gas EMC Aero Tech 29 Passenger shuttle bus. I also have a 1994 school bus 7.3 diesel. My question is can I take the 7.3 diesel engine & Trans & install it into the 1988 Ford gas El Dorado shuttle bus? Where I live diesel is $1.00 a gallon cheaper than gas.:read:

Crazier Swap

SmokeyWren, I see your answer here.

forgivenall, did you go through with your swap? I'm wondering if there's anything major I should worry about.

I have a similar, but more complicated situation. I have a 1983 E-350 as a Class C motorhome chassis that is running on 5 cylinders of a 460 gas engine. I can get my hands on an International DT 466 engine with transmission out of an old DOT maintenance truck. I realize that it will require some modifications, and I'm ok with doing things like adding a separate gas tank for the onan generator that's onboard. I realize that I may need to do some frustrating work to get the instruments to work along with the new powertrain.

Is this a doomed project? At the moment, I'm mostly worried about the weight the I6 is going to put on the front axle as compared to the 460. I have seen that the 460 weighs in the neighborhood of 700 lbs, while the number from Navistar on the DT 466 is twice that at 1425 lbs dry. I believe the 6.9L IDI weighs in around 1100 lbs.

Has anyone heard of such a swap? I would appreciate any sort of information.
